Replay Music Festival

A tribute band competition in the historic center of Modica

The Replay Music Festival is the first event in the Ragusa province entirely dedicated to tribute and cover bands. Created to energize Modica's historic center beyond the summer season, the festival turns Piazza Matteotti, in the heart of Modica Bassa, into a grand open-air stage for eight consecutive Saturday nights between October and November.

How the competition works

Every Saturday night, a different tribute band—selected from the most acclaimed acts on the Sicilian scene—takes the stage to pay tribute to a major artist or group from the Italian and international music scene. The audience is invited to vote for their favorite band on the event's official website: at the end of the eight appointments, the act with the most votes is awarded. This participatory mechanism turns every evening into a genuine competition, directly involving spectators of all ages.

Tributes to music legends

Over the years, the festival has hosted tribute bands dedicated to some of the most beloved names in music: from tributes to Vasco Rossi and Ligabue to those of the Pooh, from Coldplay to Franco Battiato, as well as Max Pezzali's 883 and the repertoire of Renzo Arbore. It is a musical journey spanning rock, pop, and singer-songwriter classics, capable of getting entire generations singing and dancing in the square.

A popular and free celebration

Admission to the evenings is free: the Replay Music Festival was founded as a tourism promotion initiative to revitalize the historic center, designed to bring residents and visitors back into the squares and support local businesses. The evenings, which continue until late at night, are often accompanied by other events on the Modica calendar and help keep the city's atmosphere vibrant even during the autumn months.

The event takes place in the municipality of Modica, in the province of Ragusa, in the heart of south-eastern Sicily. A UNESCO World Heritage city for its extraordinary Baroque architecture and world-renowned for its cold-processed chocolate, Modica offers festival-goers a unique scenic backdrop: the staircases, monumental churches, and alleys of the historic center provide the setting for a festival that blends live music, tradition, and Sicilian hospitality.
