Scicli's Christmas program featuring a Santa Claus village, ice rink, concerts, and a living nativity scene

Christmas in Scicli is the rich schedule of events that the Municipality of Scicli, a jewel of Sicilian Baroque in the province of Ragusa, organizes every year for the holidays. For about thirty days, from the beginning of December until Epiphany, the UNESCO World Heritage historic center and the seaside villages fill with lights, music, and activities designed for families, children, and visitors. The inauguration coincides with the lighting of the decorations and the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Christmas village.
The heart of the event is the Santa Claus village, set up in the area of Largo Gramsci and Via Badiula. It is a space entirely dedicated to children, featuring Santa's house where they can deliver their letters, rides, a talking tree, talking reindeer, and Christmas markets with local products and handicrafts. A major attraction is the ice rink for skating, set up in the area above the Via Badiula parking lot. The village is open every day in the afternoon and, on weekends, also in the morning.
The musical program ranges from big national names to gospel concerts hosted in the courtyards and churches of the center. Alongside musical events, there are comedy shows, dance performances in the square, theatrical productions at the city's cinema-theater, and entertainment with inflatables for children in the surrounding villages. The videomapping festival, which illuminates the facades of churches and historic palaces, is particularly evocative, highlighting Scicli's late-Baroque architecture. Christmas background music and thematic lighting on the San Matteo hill complete the atmosphere.
Among the most cherished events for the community is the living nativity scene, staged in the picturesque San Bartolomeo district at Piedigrotta, where the characteristic caves and ancient alleys provide a natural backdrop for the Nativity. The re-enactment, brought to life by local performers, is one of the most authentic expressions of Scicli's folk tradition. The program concludes around Epiphany with the arrival of the Befana and final activities for all ages.
A hallmark of Christmas in Scicli is the distribution of events: not only the historic center but also the hamlets and seaside villages like Donnalucata are involved with concerts and initiatives. It is an opportunity to discover one of the most fascinating towns in the Val di Noto out of season, amidst monumental churches, Baroque streets, and the landscapes of the Iblean territory overlooking the sea.
The 2026 edition of Christmas in Scicli has not yet been officially announced. Based on previous editions, the Christmas program of the Municipality of Scicli runs from early December until Epiphany, featuring the Santa Claus village, ice rink, markets, concerts, and the living nativity scene in the San Bartolomeo district. The detailed program will be communicated by the municipal administration in the weeks preceding the holidays.
Events take place in the historic center of Scicli (province of Ragusa), with the Christmas village between Largo Gramsci and Via Badiula and concerts in Piazza Italia, in church courtyards, and in the surrounding villages.
By car: Scicli can be reached via the SS115; the nearest airport is Comiso (about 40 km away), followed by Catania-Fontanarossa. The Scicli train station is on the Syracuse-Gela line.
Most of the municipal events are free to attend. For updated opening hours of the village and individual events, it is recommended to check the official channels of the Municipality of Scicli.
