The Chigiana Chianti Classico Experience is one of the most fascinating events of the Chigiana International Festival & Summer Academy, the major summer festival organized in Siena and the surrounding Sienese lands by the Fondazione Accademia Musicale Chigiana. The concert hosted at Rocca di Montegrossi, in the hamlet of Monti in Chianti, within the municipality of Gaiole in Chianti (Province of Siena, Tuscany), brings classical music directly into the Sangiovese vineyards, in one of the oldest and most evocative estates of the Chianti Classico region.

The Chianti Classico Experience series

The series was born from the collaboration between the Chigiana Academy and the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico and aims to combine the great chamber music repertoire with Tuscan food and wine traditions. The format is a complete sensory experience: each concert is preceded by a wine tasting of the host winery, allowing high-level music and the distinctive flavors of the territory to blend into a single narrative. The protagonists are young talents from the Advanced Musical Specialization courses of the Chigiana Academy, performers already embarking on international careers, who perform in the most representative wineries of the 'Gallo Nero'.

The Rocca di Montegrossi winery

Rocca di Montegrossi traces its roots back to a Lombard-era fortress built around the 7th-8th century. The estate is now led by Marco Ricasoli Firidolfi, a descendant of the famous Bettino Ricasoli, whose name is tied to the history of the territory and the birth of Chianti Classico wine. Located in the San Marcellino area, in Monti in Chianti, a few kilometers south of Gaiole, the estate produces Chianti Classico DOCG, the Gran Selezione from the San Marcellino vineyard, the famous Vin Santo del Chianti Classico, and extra virgin olive oil. Its setting of vineyards, olive groves, and woods offers an intimate and authentic backdrop for listening to chamber music on summer evenings.

The Chigiana Academy and the festival

Founded in 1932 by Count Guido Chigi Saracini, the Accademia Musicale Chigiana is one of the world's most prestigious institutions for advanced musical training, a point of reference for generations of performers. Every summer, its festival enlivens Siena and the Chianti lands with concerts, operas, and events under the artistic direction of Nicola Sani. The 2026 edition, the twelfth, is developed around the theme «Islands» and takes place from July 7th to September 1st.
