The great Chianti Classico wine festival in the square of Greve
Expo Chianti Classico is the most important wine event dedicated to the famous Gallo Nero wine, held in the historic center of Greve in Chianti, in the Province of Florence, in the heart of Tuscany. Organized by the Municipality of Greve in Chianti in collaboration with the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico, it is the only event that manages to bring together producers from all the municipalities of the Chianti Classico DOCG denomination in a single square, creating a large open-air wine lounge.
Born in the 1970s, the event has grown edition after edition to become a highly anticipated appointment for enthusiasts, industry professionals, and tourists from all over the world. The charm of the festival lies in the opportunity to experience Chianti Classico "at home," meeting winemakers directly in the landscape that gives life to their wines, among vineyards, cellars, and the villages that dot the Chianti hills.
At the heart of the festival, Piazza Matteotti and the streets of the center fill with winery stands: in recent editions, over sixty wine companies have participated, joined by the Consortial Pavilion where it is possible to taste a wide selection of labels. Tasting is made possible by the official glass, which can be picked up at the organizers' stand and entitles you to a series of tickets to be spent at the tasting counters.
Expo Chianti Classico is not just a commercial showcase, but an opportunity to promote the entire Chianti territory and its rural identity. The event combines the culture of wine with that of the landscape, gastronomy, and Tuscan popular traditions, offering visitors a complete experience in the municipality of Greve in Chianti and the Tuscany Region.
The 54th edition of Expo Chianti Classico will be held in Greve in Chianti from Thursday, September 10th to Sunday, September 13th, 2026, confirming the historic appointment in Piazza Matteotti. Also for 2026, the event will bring together producers from all the Chianti Classico DOCG municipalities in the square, with tasting stands, the Consortial Pavilion, and the official Gallo Nero glass.
As per tradition, the winery counters will be joined by guided tastings, food and wine pairings, exhibitions, shows, and evening concerts. The detailed line-up of events and the complete calendar will be communicated by the organizers on the official website in the weeks leading up to the festival.
Greve in Chianti is easily reached by car from the SR222 "Chiantigiana" road, about 30 km from Florence and 40 km from Siena. During the event, the center is largely pedestrianized: it is recommended to use the parking lots in the areas surrounding the town.
Entrance to the square is free. For tastings, you can purchase the official glass (in recent editions starting from about 20 euros), which includes a series of tickets: tastings of vintage Chianti Classico are worth one ticket, while Riserva, Gran Selezione, and Vinsanto are worth two.
The stands are generally open from late morning until evening. For updated hours and the final program, it is recommended to consult the official website.
