The End-of-Summer Festival is the major popular celebration in Subbiano, a town in the Province of Arezzo overlooking the Arno river at the gateway to the Casentino, in Tuscany. Organized by the Pro Loco Subbiano with the help of local volunteers, the event traditionally takes place from the third Saturday of August until the second Sunday of September, enlivening the town center for three consecutive weekends. In 2025, it reached its 51st edition, confirming a tradition that has lasted for half a century.
The convivial heart of the festival is the large open-air restaurant, where every evening you can enjoy traditional Tuscan and Casentino dishes, with themed menus that change nightly: from game meat to porcini mushrooms, and from cannelloni to 'nana in porchetta' (roast duck). Alongside the dining, the program offers a rich calendar of events:
The most anticipated and iconic moment is the Grape Festival Re-enactment, held on the second Sunday of September, which celebrated its 41st edition in 2025. The festival was born to commemorate ancient peasant customs related to the grape harvest: once the fruit of months of labor was gathered, families would reunite for a dinner and a dance on the threshing floor. Today, that world comes alive in the parade of allegorical floats that travel through the village streets, decorated by the inhabitants of the hamlets around Subbiano and accompanied by folk groups, marching bands, flag-wavers, and majorettes from various locations. During the parade, grapes, wine, vin santo, traditional sweets, and roasted chestnuts are distributed.
On the Sunday of the Re-enactment, from the morning, the historic center hosts the 'Time That Was' Market, featuring an exhibition of vintage equipment, a mycological display, and typical products from the Arno Valley and the Casentino. On one of the preceding Sundays, the Livestock Sample Exhibition is also held, dedicated to breeding and farm animals, a living testament to the rural vocation of the area. The final day is crowned in the evening by a fireworks display.
The End-of-Summer Festival is one of the most genuine popular festivals in the Arezzo area: no polished tourist facade, but a community telling its own story through food, dance, harvest traditions, and local pride. It is the perfect opportunity to discover Subbiano and the Casentino away from the main tourist circuits, amidst good food and authentic folklore.
The 2026 End-of-Summer Festival is expected to renew the late-summer appointment in Subbiano, in the Arezzo Casentino, with the usual program of a large restaurant, dance evenings, shows, sports, and the Grape Festival Re-enactment with the parade of allegorical floats.
The dates shared by aggregators indicate August 19 and the weekends of August 28-30, September 4-6, and September 11-13, 2026. However, this information has not yet been verified by official sources: the detailed program for the 2026 edition has not been published yet.
The full program, with the times for each evening and details of the Re-enactment, is usually released by the Pro Loco Subbiano in the weeks preceding the event: it is advisable to check the prolocosubbiano.it website and official channels for confirmation of dates and events.
