About Chieti Night Run

The Chieti Night Run is a historic road running race that brings the historic center of the Abruzzo capital to life every June. Established in 2000 and organized by the ASD US Acli Marathon Chieti, the event attracts hundreds of athletes from across Abruzzo for a competitive evening race, accompanied by a non-competitive fun run open to everyone and lively youth races. Starting and finishing at the Villa Comunale, the route winds through the most picturesque streets and squares of Chieti, from the Roman Temples to Corso Marrucino, in a festive atmosphere that blends sport, community, and tradition.

The evening race that symbolizes Teatine sport

The Chieti Night Run is one of the most anticipated and long-standing running events in Abruzzo. Every year, on a June evening, the historic center of the Teatine capital transforms into a grand city circuit animated by hundreds of runners, families, and enthusiasts. The event, organized by the ASD US Acli Marathon Chieti, takes place under the patronage of the Municipality of Chieti and the Abruzzo Region, and is featured in the national FIDAL, US Acli, and UISP calendars.

A route through the heart of Chieti

The start and finish are set at the Villa Comunale, the city's green lung. From here, the track winds through the most characteristic streets and squares of the center: Viale IV Novembre, the Trinità area, Corso Marrucino, the scenic Piazza dei Templi Romani, Via Priscilla, Via Ravizza, Via Porta Napoli, Via Pianel, and Via Ricci, before returning to the Villa. Running in the evening along these paths, amidst illuminated monuments and ancient vistas, offers participants a evocative experience deeply tied to the identity of Chieti, one of Italy's oldest cities.

Races and program

The day includes various competitive and participatory moments:

  • Competitive road race, the heart of the event, open to registered athletes;
  • Non-competitive fun run, designed for those who want to experience the event at a free pace, without a stopwatch;
  • Youth races over shorter distances, dedicated to children and promotional categories.

The meeting point is traditionally at the Villa Comunale in the early afternoon, with youth races opening the program and the competitive race starting in the early evening, following the course inspection.

A Teatine community event

The Night Run is more than just a race: it is a celebration of sport that involves the entire city. Every year, a large delegation from the G. d'Annunzio University of Chieti-Pescara participates, with students and athletes adding color to the starting group, a testament to the strong bond between the event and the city's fabric. The race crosses a provincial capital rich in history, from the remains of the ancient Roman Teate to the churches and palaces of the center, offering visitors a chance to discover Chieti and the Abruzzo hinterland beyond just the competitive aspect.

Why participate

Among Abruzzo's road races, the Chieti Night Run stands out for its evening atmosphere, the urban route through the historic center, and the inclusive spirit that unites competitive runners, walkers, and children. An appointment that confirms the Teatine capital's sporting vocation every June.
