The youth-led Carnival featuring allegorical floats at the Nanni Vignolo exhibition center
The Cavour Carnival is a festive celebration that fills the Town of Cavour—a village in the Pinerolo area at the foot of the Rocca, in the Province of Turin and the heart of Piedmont—with confetti and masks. The event was born from the determination of the young members of the Pro Loco Giovani of Cavour, who picked up and relaunched an idea originally proposed by the municipal administration years prior but never realized: "This year, we young people wanted to try and make it happen, and we committed ourselves to organizing it," explained Nicolò Bruno of the Pro Loco Giovani.
The heart of the festival is the exhibition of allegorical floats created by masked groups from the Pinerolo area and nearby valleys. Some of the most well-known local troupes have participated in the event:
These large papier-mâché structures, the result of months of work by volunteers, are admired up close by the public in a festive atmosphere that celebrates the creativity and community spirit typical of Piedmontese carnivals.
The Cavour Carnival is designed as a grand evening open to everyone. Alongside the floats, there are games and inflatables for children, while the atmosphere is kept lively by rotating DJ sets that accompany the entire evening. There is also a bar service and street food, perfect for enjoying a bite with friends and family.
The festival takes place at the Nanni Vignolo exhibition center, the same venue that hosts TuttoMele in the autumn, the famous apple fair established in 1980 by the Pro Loco of Cavour and now one of the most important events in Piedmont. The area, named after the historic president of the Pro Loco, is located along Via Goito and offers large indoor spaces, ideal for hosting the floats and the public even in case of bad weather.
With the Cavour Carnival, the "apple town" adds a new event to its calendar, born from the enthusiasm of the youth and collaboration with the municipal youth department. It is a festival that combines the folklore of allegorical floats with the joy of coming together, confirming the vitality of the carnival tradition in the Pinerolo area.
