The non-competitive dawn run through the streets of Castellarano (RE)
There is only one time of year when the streets of Castellarano, in the province of Reggio Emilia, fill with people at half past five in the morning: it is the Castlarun 5.30, the non-competitive dawn run organized by Pro Loco Castellarano. The name says it all: the departure time is precisely 5:30 AM, when the sky is just beginning to lighten and the air is still cool. It is not a race, but a collective event open to everyone, where being a sprinter or a simple walker doesn't matter.
The route, about 5 km long, winds through the village streets and the countryside of the Reggio Apennines, offering participants the pleasure of experiencing the sunrise in motion. The format is a non-competitive run or walk: everyone proceeds at their own pace, with family or friends, with the sole aim of starting the day well by doing sports and being together. At the end, refreshments and breakfast offered by the organizers await the participants, a convivial moment that concludes the morning.
Since its first editions, Castlarun 5.30 has made sustainability a distinctive feature: the event focuses on the use of only biodegradable, recyclable, and local materials, in line with the spirit of respect for the territory that animates it. It is a way to remember that popular sport and environmental protection can go hand in hand, and run, together.
Behind the organization is the Pro Loco Castellarano, a volunteer association that has been enlivening the life of the town for years with cultural, sporting, and gastronomic initiatives. The modest registration fee typically includes the event t-shirt, refreshments, and water, and registrations are collected in the weeks leading up to the run, including online. Over the years, Castlarun 5.30 has become a small town tradition, capable of gathering hundreds of people at dawn on an early summer day.
Castellarano is a municipality in Emilia-Romagna overlooking the Secchia river, known for its medieval historic village and the hilly landscape that surrounds it. Castlarun 5.30 is one of the most genuine opportunities to discover this corner of the Reggio Emilia province from an unusual perspective: that of those who cross its streets when the town is still asleep and the sun has yet to rise.
The event took place on Friday, June 5, 2026, starting at 5:30 AM from the center of Castellarano (Via Torre 1).
The organization, handled by Pro Loco Castellarano, collected registrations online through the dedicated platform, with registrations closing at the end of May. The event confirmed its popular character and attention to the environment, with the use of biodegradable and local materials.
Event open to runners, walkers, and families, without a competitive spirit: everyone proceeds at their own pace. Registrations collected online by Pro Loco Castellarano in the preceding weeks, closing at the end of May.
