The medieval village dresses up in music for the summer solstice
The Music Festival in Castiglione della Pescaia, a jewel of the Maremma coast in the province of Grosseto, celebrates the European Music Day every June 21st. This event, which originated in France in 1982, has spread across Europe to coincide with the summer solstice. For the occasion, the charming medieval village overlooking the sea, with its ancient walls and stone alleys, transforms into a grand open-air stage where music becomes the common thread of a collective, open, and free experience.
The day features concerts, bands, and local musical groups performing live in various spots around town, from Piazza Solti to the streets and squares of the historic center. The local business association and the Municipality coordinate the initiatives, turning streets and corners of the village into small stages: from classical music to rock'n'roll, and from intimate performances to itinerant shows, the atmosphere engages residents and tourists alike in a festive evening that lasts until late at night.
In 2026, the Castiglione Music Festival is part of "Toscana Arcobaleno d'Estate", the festival promoted by the Tuscany Region that lights up dozens of villages with events dedicated to art, music, and traditions from June 18th to 23rd. Castiglione della Pescaia participates with a weekend full of appointments featuring art, music, and stargazing, confirming its role as a vibrant cultural hub of the Tuscan Maremma.
The Music Festival is the perfect appointment to discover one of the most beloved villages on the Tuscan coast, combining the charm of the Maremma landscape with the unifying power of music.
The 2026 edition of the Music Festival in Castiglione della Pescaia takes place on Sunday, June 21st, on the day of the summer solstice, as part of the regional festival Toscana Arcobaleno d'Estate (June 18-23, 2026).
The highlight is the concert by the Carabinieri Band, an ensemble of over one hundred musicians trained in the best Italian conservatories, scheduled at 6:30 PM in Piazza Georg Solti. The performance is conducted by Major Massimiliano Ciafrei, composer, arranger, and conductor. After the concert, the festivities continue through the streets of the historic center with performances and musical entertainment, while the local business association transforms the town into a large open-air stage.
By car: Castiglione della Pescaia can be reached via the SS322 delle Collacchie; take the Grosseto exit from the A12/E80 motorway or the SS1 Aurelia, then continue towards the coast. By train: Grosseto station on the Tirrenica line, then take a local bus to Castiglione della Pescaia (approx. 22 km). By plane: Pisa and Florence airports, about two hours away by road.
All Music Festival events are free of charge.
The medieval village is best explored on foot; it is recommended to park in the central areas and walk up towards Piazza Solti. In summer, it is advisable to book accommodation in advance, given the high tourist influx on the Maremma coast.
