A masquerade parade between the seafront and the historic center of Castiglione della Pescaia
Every year, in the heart of winter, the Castiglione Carnival fills the streets of Castiglione della Pescaiaโone of the most beloved seaside villages in the Grosseto Maremmaโwith colors, confetti, and laughter. During a season when this famous seaside resort rests away from the summer crowds, the Carnival offers residents and visitors an authentic, inclusive celebration that brings families together for an afternoon of pure fun.
The heart of the event is the masquerade parade, which kicks off at the Lungomare di Via Roma, near the Giardino dei Giochini, and winds through the town streets until it reaches Piazza Garibaldi. Masks, costumed groups, and vibrant outfits bring the route to life, accompanied by music, games, and activities designed for children. It is a festive stroll that blends the charm of the Maremma seafront with the warmth of the Castiglione historic center.
Each edition features a different theme that inspires costumes and decorations: in 2026, the guiding thread was the wild world of Wacky Races, while in previous years, the town has transformed into settings like a magical circus. The festival traditionally concludes with the awards ceremony for the best costume and the most original groups, a highly anticipated moment that celebrates the creativity of all participants.
Organized by the Comitato Carnevale Castiglionese with the support of local businesses and associations, the Carnival is one of the events that best captures the community spirit of Castiglione della Pescaia. A free event open to everyone, it is the perfect way to discover the Maremma in an unusual, festive light deeply rooted in Tuscan popular traditions.
