Christmas of ancient crafts in the heart of the La Torre district

The Camporeale Living Nativity is one of the most heartfelt Christmas events in the hinterland of the Palermo province, in Sicily. Established in 2023, the event has grown year after year, attracting hundreds of visitors; the opening night of the last edition alone welcomed over five hundred people. Promoted by the Sant'Antonio di Padova Parish with the involvement of the entire Camporeale community, the nativity scene turns the historic center into a true village of yesteryear.
The heart of the setting is the evocative La Torre district, with its cobblestone streets winding behind the Prince's Palace, surrounding the 17th-century Ancient Tower. The houses, courtyards, and corners of the neighborhood become workshops, stables, and homes of a rural Sicilian village, where every scene carefully reconstructs the daily life of the past.
Over eighty actors in period costumes bring the scenes to life: the blacksmith at work, embroiderers, cobblers, shepherds, butchers, greengrocers, carpenters, and potters demonstrate traditional artisanal techniques using original tools. It is a re-enactment that combines religious devotion, collective memory, and the promotion of the territory.
The route, including the evocative Nativity grotto, is designed to be accessible even to visitors in wheelchairs. The atmosphere of serenity and spirituality, combined with the flavors and scents of the traditional Sicilian Christmas, makes the Camporeale Living Nativity an ideal stop for those wishing to experience Christmas away from the major tourist circuits, in the authentic heart of western Sicily.
The program and dates for the 2026-2027 edition of the Camporeale Living Nativity have not yet been published. Based on the tradition of past editions, the event is expected to be held during the Christmas period in the La Torre district, in the historic center of the Municipality of Camporeale, in the province of Palermo. As soon as the official dates and details are communicated by the organizing parish, this page will be updated.
Camporeale is located in the hinterland of the Palermo province, along the Belice Valley. By car, it can be reached from the A29 Palermo-Mazara del Vallo motorway, taking the exit towards Camporeale-San Cipirello. The setting is located in the La Torre district, in the historic center, behind the Prince's Palace.
Admission requires a symbolic contribution of approximately 5 euros. The proceeds support the event's organization managed by the parish.
The event takes place in the evening hours, in the middle of winter: warm clothing and comfortable shoes are recommended for the route on cobblestone streets. The path is also accessible to people with motor disabilities.
