A summer of music, culture, and memories in the heart of the Pisan Maremma
The Casale Marittimo Summer Festival is the summer event that brings the medieval village of Casale Marittimo to life in the Province of Pisa, in the heart of Tuscany. Perched on an inland hill over 200 meters above sea level, overlooking the Cecina Valley and the Etruscan Coast, the town offers its natural scenery to the festival: the central Piazza del Popolo, the stone alleys, the Piazzetta della Canonica, the Municipal Theatre, and the panoramic terraces overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea.
The 2026 edition is developed around the central theme "The Love for Memories," chosen specifically for the Romantic Night of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, the national event that makes the most evocative historic centers of the peninsula fall in love every year. During the evening, the village dresses up for the occasion with sunset walks, storytelling, live music, and the famous midnight kiss in the square.
The program weaves together different genres and languages: classical music concerts performed by musicians from the Amsterdam Consort, jazz sessions, tales and theatrical narratives about memory and local traditions, the Music Festival with stories and songs from the Maremma, and creative workshops dedicated to school children. A multidisciplinary proposal that enhances the culture, solidarity, and identity of the territory.
Casale Marittimo has its origins in the Etruscan era: the famous Warrior Princes of Casale Marittimo, among the oldest full-round statues of European art, come from the Casa Nocera necropolis. The village, fortified in the medieval period under the Counts of Gherardesca, is part of the Pisan Maremma along with Castellina Marittima, Guardistallo, Montescudaio, Santa Luce, and Riparbella. The Summer Festival is today one of the best opportunities to discover this authentic corner of Tuscany far from mass tourism routes.
The festival is curated by the Pro Loco Association of Casale Marittimo, which involves the community in convivial evenings such as the Dinner under the Stars in Piazza del Popolo. The events, mostly outdoors, are designed for a wide and family-friendly audience.
The Casale Marittimo Summer Festival 2026 inaugurates the village's summer season with a program spread across squares, terraces, and the Municipal Theatre. The theme of the year is "The Love for Memories," expressed through evenings of music, storytelling, and conviviality. The heart of the festival is the Romantic Night of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy on June 20, featuring sunset walks, concerts, and the midnight kiss in Piazza del Popolo. All events are organized by the Pro Loco of Casale Marittimo.
By car: Casale Marittimo can be reached from the SS1 Aurelia (Cecina exit) heading inland; the village is about 12 km from the coast. By train: Cecina station on the Tyrrhenian line, then bus or taxi to the village. Nearest airports: Pisa and Florence.
Events are held in the historic center: Piazza del Popolo, Piazzetta della Canonica, Municipal Theatre, and the village's panoramic terraces.
The village is made of stone and is hilly: wear comfortable shoes. For the Dinner under the Stars, a white dress code is requested. Check times and reservations by contacting the Pro Loco at [email protected].
