The San Michele Salentino Carnival featuring floats, masks, and music
Carnevale inFesta is the carnival celebration that has captured the spirit of San Michele Salentino, a small town in the Brindisi hinterland of Puglia, in recent years. Despite being a young event, it has quickly become one of the most anticipated winter highlights in Puglia, transforming the town streets into a river of color, masks, and music. The event is managed by the San Michele inFesta association, which organizes it in close collaboration with the municipal administration and numerous local associations.
The heart of the festival lies in the parades of allegorical floats and masked groups, which start from the town streets and converge on Piazza Marconi. Both adults and children parade in elaborate costumes with choreography and dancing, amidst confetti and streamers. Participation has grown exponentially since the first edition, now involving hundreds of performers and a massive crowd that fills the square from early afternoon until evening.
Carnevale inFesta is designed as a community celebration, open to all ages. Alongside the parades, there is children's entertainment, games, music, and performance moments that make the day perfect for families, friends, and grandparents. Past editions have also featured themed masked groups, Disney characters, and musical guests, making the festival Sundays even more special.
Carnival is one of the most cherished traditions in Puglia and Salento: a moment of togetherness where towns rediscover the pleasure of socializing through folklore, satire, and joy. In San Michele Salentino, this tradition is renewed with a modern and inclusive event that highlights local community spirit and provides a fixed date in the February calendar.
The parades take place along the streets of the center of San Michele Salentino, with the arrival and gathering point in Piazza Marconi, typically on three consecutive Sundays in February. Admission to the parades is free and open to everyone.
The 2026 edition, the third of Carnevale inFesta, was held over three consecutive Sundays in February: February 1, 8, and 15, 2026. The parades of allegorical floats and masked groups traveled through the streets of San Michele Salentino, converging on Piazza Marconi, enlivened by choreography, music, and entertainment for the little ones.
The highlight on February 15 saw a packed square, featuring a concert by the group Genkidama and the presence of characters like Minnie and Mickey Mouse, organized by Portale Magico. The organizers of the San Michele inFesta association expressed great satisfaction with the record-breaking turnout, confirming the exponential growth of the event between the first and third editions.
