About Culture Month

The Carmagnola Culture Month, located in the heart of the Province of Turin in Piedmont, brings the city's historic center to life for over four weeks with dozens of free events: literary meetings, theater, concerts, exhibitions, conferences, and workshops. From the evocative Castle Courtyard to the Cascina Vigna Park, passing through the public library, museums, and churches, every corner of Carmagnola becomes a stage. The festival brings together established events such as Letti di Notte, Il libro del mercoledì, Mineral Carmagnola, and the Bonsai and Suiseki Exhibition.

A city that embraces culture

The Carmagnola Culture Month is the major summer festival that the Municipality of Carmagnola, in the Province of Turin and the heart of Piedmont, dedicates to culture in all its forms every year. For over four weeks, the city of peppers opens its courtyards, squares, historic palaces, museums, and churches to a dense calendar of events: literature, theater, music, visual arts, scientific conferences, and school workshops. The common thread is accessibility: all events have free admission.

The festival venues

The beating heart of the event is the Municipal Castle Courtyard, which hosts most of the evening performances. Alongside it, the program unfolds through the Cascina Vigna Park, the Ancient Bastions, the Public Library, the Civic Naval Museum, Casa Cavassa, the Piazza Italia exhibition hall, and numerous churches and squares in the historic center. In case of rain, the events in the Castle Courtyard are moved to the Ancient Bastions Hall.

Festivals within the festival

The Culture Month brings together several consolidated events under a single banner:

  • Letti di Notte, the pop-literary festival that brings nationally renowned authors to Carmagnola for five evenings of meetings at Cascina Vigna Park;
  • Il libro del mercoledì, a series of literary presentations in the Castle Courtyard;
  • Mineral Carmagnola, a fossil and mineral exhibition at the exhibition hall;
  • Bonsai and Suiseki Exhibition, featuring workshops and a competition between the Ancient Bastions hall and the church of San Rocco;
  • Archivissima and the Night of the Archives, dedicated to documentary heritage;
  • Portici da leggere, the book market fair under the arcades of Via Valobra.

Theater, music, and traditions

The programming ranges from classic comedies by the Compagnia Torino Spettacoli to tribute concerts dedicated to the greats of Italian music, from school theatrical performances to naturalistic conferences by Pro Natura Carmagnola. There is no shortage of local religious traditions, such as the Corpus Domini procession, the Feast of Saint Anthony of Padua with the blessing of the bread, and the celebrations of Saint John the Baptist, the city's patron saint.

A showcase for local associations

The Culture Month is also an opportunity for schools, comprehensive institutes, Pro Loco, Lions Clubs, and the many associations of Carmagnola to present their projects, from murals to creative workshops, from old-fashioned games to the Forum of Associations. This is how the festival becomes a mirror of an entire community telling its story through culture.

Culture Month — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Carmagnola Culture Month takes place from May 29 to June 29, with over a month of free appointments throughout the historic center. Highlights include the Letti di Notte literary festival with Concita De Gregorio, Viola Ardone, Enzo Iacchetti, and Felicia Kingsley, musical tributes to Ornella Vanoni, Lucio Battisti, and Lucio Dalla, and the Mineral Carmagnola and Bonsai and Suiseki exhibitions.

Letti di Notte and literary meetings

The pop-literary festival Letti di Notte returns from June 9 to 13, 2026, at the Cascina Vigna Park Courtyard, always at 9:00 PM, with five evenings of great guests: Concita De Gregorio ("La Cura"), Viola Ardone ("Tanta ancora vita"), Flavio Marino ("Tutto il mondo del pane"), Enzo Iacchetti ("25 minuti di felicità"), and Felicia Kingsley ("Mezzanotte a Parigi"). The Il libro del mercoledì cycle also continues in the Castle Courtyard, with Paolo Kessisoglu (June 3), Maurizio Ferrini (June 17), and Alessandro Beloli (June 24).
