The gastronomic festival in Nereto dedicated to the signature dish of the Val Vibrata
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Capra alla Neretese Festival is the gastronomic event that defines the town of Nereto, in the heart of the Val Vibrata, in the province of Teramo, in the Abruzzo region. Established in the early 2000s by the Circolo Nereto 2001 - Anziani & Giovani, the festival reached its twenty-second edition in 2025, confirming its status as one of the most popular summer gatherings in the Vibrata territory. The event takes place in August under the patronage of the Municipality of Nereto and actively involves local producers from the Val Vibrata.
The absolute star is capra alla neretese, a traditional Abruzzese pastoral dish recognized by the Abruzzo Region as a typical agri-food product. It consists of goat meat morsels slow-cooked in a stew with tomato, onion, wine, and spices, accompanied by tasty fried red peppers. It is a recipe with a bold flavor, passed down from generation to generation, tied to the rural and pastoral history of this strip of Abruzzo bordering the Marche region.
The festival places great emphasis on the quality and origin of its ingredients, showcasing local producers from the Val Vibrata and zero-kilometer raw materials. Alongside the signature dish, the menu offers genuine flavors of the Teramo tradition in a setting that combines good food with a sense of community.
Highly loved by residents and visitors from neighboring towns, the Capra alla Neretese Festival attracts large crowds every year, so much so that the organizers recommend arriving early or booking ahead due to limited seating. The covered area allows guests to enjoy the evening even in case of bad weather, amidst conviviality and the aromas of Nereto cuisine. The event is an ideal opportunity to discover the gastronomic identity of Nereto and the Val Vibrata in a welcoming and authentically Abruzzese summer setting.
The 2026 edition of the Capra alla Neretese Festival does not yet have official dates. Historically, the festival takes place in Nereto, in the Val Vibrata, during the second half of August. The detailed program will be announced by the organizers of the Circolo Nereto 2001 - Anziani & Giovani in the weeks leading up to the event.
