The grape harvest, rural traditions, and Abruzzo wines in the historic center of Mosciano Sant'Angelo
In the heart of the Teramo hills, just a few kilometers from the Adriatic coast, the town of Mosciano Sant'Angelo preserves one of the most deeply rooted folk traditions in Abruzzo. The Grape Festival, founded in 1922, is one of the oldest and longest-running food and wine festivals in the region. Its motto, «Uva Viva Uva dal 1921» (Living Grape, Grape since 1921), reflects a nearly century-long history that makes it a defining event for the entire territory.
Every year, in mid-September, the town's historic center transforms into a grand stage dedicated to the grape harvest and the rural roots of this land. Alleys, squares, and cellars fill with scents, colors, and music in a celebration that blends memories of field labor with the joy of conviviality.
The food and wine heart of the event is the tasting of Abruzzo wines, with a special focus on labels from the Teramo district, guided by AIES sommeliers. Alongside the wine glasses, stalls offer traditional rural dishes and local products, creating a culinary journey through the town's streets. There are also culinary challenges, such as the grilling of arrosticini and the award for the most authentic fornacella (charcoal grill).
What makes the Grape Festival unique is its rich program of folk traditions. The parade of allegorical floats, entirely decorated with grape clusters and harvest symbols, winds through the historic center and is one of the most anticipated moments. The Palio delle Botti sees local districts compete in a test of strength and skill, with categories divided by age. The Dote Procession (Dowry Procession) stages the ancient ritual of the rural wedding, with the bridal trousseau carried through the streets. To complete the picture, there are traditional games—from slingshot challenges to scarecrow building—and folk shows that enliven the evenings.
Organized by the Pro Loco Musiano with the patronage of the Municipality of Mosciano Sant'Angelo and the support of the Province of Teramo, the Abruzzo Region, and the BIM, the Grape Festival is an event that involves the entire community and attracts visitors from across the province. It is the perfect opportunity to discover an authentic village, its wines, and its hospitality, immersed in a festive atmosphere that has been passed down for over a century.
The 68th Grape Festival of Mosciano Sant'Angelo returns from September 10 to 13, 2026, confirming the most iconic event of the Teramo village. This year, the historic center will once again host tastings of Abruzzo wines, food stalls with local products, and a rich program of folk traditions.
As per tradition, the parade of allegorical floats, the Palio delle Botti between the districts, the Dote Procession, and traditional games are expected, along with music and folk shows. The detailed program, with daily schedules and appointments, will be published by the Pro Loco Musiano in the weeks leading up to the event on their Facebook page.
The dates for the 68th edition are confirmed for September 10-13, 2026. The detailed program, with daily schedules, has not yet been published; it will be released by the Pro Loco Musiano in the weeks preceding the event on their official Facebook page.
Based on previous editions, the festival includes tastings of Abruzzo wines curated by AIES sommeliers, food stalls, a parade of allegorical floats, the Palio delle Botti between districts (age-based categories), the Dote Procession, traditional games, and folk performances.
