The great autumn celebration of Teramo's flavors in Torricella Sicura
In the municipality of Torricella Sicura, an Abruzzo village nestled between the hills of the Teramo province and the slopes of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, the Fried Cheese and Local Products Festival is one of the most anticipated gastronomic events of the autumn. Organized by the Pro Loco Torricella Sicura APS with the patronage of the Municipal Administration, this edition brings the festival dedicated to the signature dish of Teramo cuisine to the town center, expanded with a rich showcase of local products.
The heart of the festival is the famous fried cheese, prepared by hand according to an ancient local recipe: slices of sheep and cow milk cheese, breaded and fried until golden and crispy on the outside, and meltingly soft on the inside. It is a specialty rooted in the pastoral culture of the Abruzzo mountains, where shepherding and dairy production have shaped the economy and identity of the communities for centuries. Alongside the fried cheese, the stalls offer truffle-infused cheeses, grilled sheep arrosticini, sausages, meats, and other genuine flavors of the Teramo tradition.
For four days, the center of Torricella Sicura comes alive with food stalls managed by Pro Loco volunteers, in a festive atmosphere that brings together the local community and visitors. The event is designed to promote local products: cheeses, cured meats, desserts, and specialties that tell the story of this territory's deep bond with agriculture and livestock. The evenings are accompanied by folk music and entertainment, in a convivial setting that is the true soul of Abruzzo festivals.
The festival is also an opportunity to get to know Torricella Sicura and its surroundings, made up of small hamlets, rural churches, and panoramas that open towards the Gran Sasso and the Monti della Laga. The municipality, which has just over two thousand inhabitants, preserves an authentic food and wine tradition, far from mass tourism circuits and linked to the slow rhythms of the mountains. Participating in the Fried Cheese Festival means experiencing a piece of authentic Abruzzo identity, amidst age-old flavors and the warm hospitality of the locals.
