About Cappelletto Festival

In Massa Lombarda, in the Bassa Romagna region of Ravenna province, the Sagra del Cappelletto combines Romagna's gastronomic tradition with solidarity. At the Fruges Neighbourhood Centre, volunteers hand-roll hundreds of kilos of cappelletti, served with ragù or mascarpone, with all proceeds donated to the Romagnolo Oncological Institute (IOR) for free patient care. A village festival where the pleasure of good food becomes a concrete gesture against cancer.

A festival that tastes of Romagna and solidarity

In the heart of Bassa Romagna, in Massa Lombarda (Ravenna province, Emilia-Romagna), the Cappelletto Festival is much more than a gastronomic event: it is one of the most cherished charitable initiatives in the area. Organized by volunteers from the Association of Volunteers and Friends of IOR, the festival transforms the passion for Romagna cuisine into concrete support for the Romagnolo Oncological Institute.

The absolute star is the caplèt in local dialect: cappelletti strictly handmade by volunteers, a very thin pasta sheet enclosing the filling according to the most authentic tradition of these lands. Over the years, the festival has become a small record of solidarity: in the previous edition, about 350 kg of cappelletti were handmade and over a thousand diners were welcomed in two days.

Where it takes place

The event is held at the Fruges Neighbourhood Centre, at via Ettore Ricci 3N in Massa Lombarda. The food stalls serve communal dinners and lunches, with takeaway options for those who prefer to enjoy the cappelletti at home.

A cause that goes beyond emergencies

All proceeds from the festival are destined for the IOR's free services for cancer patients in the Lughese area: patient transport to treatment centres, wig provision through the "Margherita Project", home care, and wellness workshops like "La forza e il sorriso" (Strength and Smile). A network of volunteers that, as the association likes to emphasize, goes far beyond emergencies and accompanies people at every stage of their journey.

Why it's worth participating

  • Fresh cappelletti handmade according to Romagna tradition
  • Authentic village festival atmosphere, convivial and family-friendly
  • Every dish is a direct contribution to the fight against cancer
  • Takeaway service for those who cannot stay for a meal

Not to be confused with the *Sagra Primaverile del Cappelletto*, a different event organized by another committee in the same municipality.

Cappelletto Festival — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Cappelletto Festival in Massa Lombarda was the first to extend over three days, from May 22 to 24, with an extra day dedicated to fundraising against cancer. Dinners on Friday and Saturday, a convivial lunch on Sunday, always with cappelletti handmade by the volunteers of the Association of Volunteers and Friends of IOR, and all proceeds donated to the Romagnolo Oncological Institute.

Program

  • Friday, May 22 — dinner from 7:00 PM
  • Saturday, May 23 — dinner from 7:00 PM
  • Sunday, May 24 — lunch from 12:00 PM

Takeaway service available starting half an hour before the stalls open. The big new feature of the 2026 edition was the addition of a third day compared to the traditional two, to strengthen fundraising in support of IOR. As every year, the signature dish is the Romagnolo cappelletto handmade by the volunteers, accompanied by local culinary specialties. All proceeds were donated to the free services of the Romagnolo Oncological Institute: patient care, prevention projects, and scientific research.
