Two days of wine, nature, and celebration in the hills of the Asti Monferrato
Cantine Aperte is Italy's most beloved wine tourism event, promoted by the Wine Tourism Movement, which brings together hundreds of wineries across the country every year on the last weekend of May. In Vinchio, a small town in the Province of Asti in the heart of the Monferrato region of Piedmont, the historic Cantina Vinchio Vaglio Serra opens its doors to welcome visitors for two days of tastings, fine dining, and celebration among the vines.
The winery is located in the San Pancrazio district, nestled within the famous Piedmontese vineyard landscapes recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. During Cantine Aperte, the Nidi di Vinchio Vaglio trails and the nearby Val Sarmassa Natural Park become the backdrop for guided walks through the rows of vines, where exploring the territory goes hand-in-hand with tasting the winery's signature wines, from Barbera d'Asti to sparkling wines like the "Castel del Mago".
Saturday is dedicated to a journey that combines poetry, nature, music, and art: starting from the winery, a walk leads along the trails into the vineyards, with stops, readings, and guided tastings led by the president and the producers. Upon returning, the festivities continue with a large self-service outdoor dinner, accompanied by traditional Piedmontese dishes prepared by the local Pro Loco, musical entertainment, and evening shows.
Sunday has a more relaxed pace, designed for families: tastings under gazebos, lunch in the park with local products, guided tours of the winery, and walks or Nordic walking through the vineyards. Special activities and entertainment are planned for children in the green areas.
The absolute star is Barbera d'Asti, the signature grape of this corner of Monferrato, accompanied by other labels from the cooperative winery. To pair with the wines, the kitchen offers appetizers, first courses, main courses, and desserts from the Piedmontese peasant tradition, in a festive atmosphere that celebrates wine culture and the hospitality of the region.
Cantine Aperte in Vinchio is much more than just a tasting: it is an opportunity to experience the work of a large cooperative winery up close, discover the hills of the Asti Monferrato, and share two days of conviviality among wine, nature, and tradition, suitable for enthusiasts and families alike.
