About Campovalano Truffle Festival

In the village of Campovalano, near Campli in the province of Teramo, the Truffle Festival has spent a quarter of a century blending gourmet truffle cuisine with the discovery of one of Abruzzo's most fascinating archaeological sites. For one week in July, food stalls open every evening at 7:00 PM, while shuttles and a tourist train take visitors to the torch-lit Campovalano Necropolis for guided night tours, classical music concerts, stargazing, and historical re-enactments.

A festival that smells of truffles and history

The Campovalano Truffle Festival takes place every July in the village of Campovalano, in the municipality of Campli, in the province of Teramo, in the heart of inland Abruzzo at the foot of the Monti Gemelli. Organized by the Associazione Campovalano Viva with the patronage of the Municipality of Campli, it has become over the years one of the most anticipated gastronomic and cultural events in the Teramo province, attracting visitors from both the Abruzzo and the Marche sides of the Ascoli area.

Truffles take center stage

The heart of the event is the truffle-based cuisine, served every evening starting at 7:00 PM with a menu that changes daily. Alongside traditional classicsโ€”truffle tagliatelle, gnocchi, ravioli, lasagna, cannelloni, and crรชpesโ€”the festival offers more refined specialties such as smoked Black Angus carpaccio and wild boar with mushrooms and truffles in limited quantities, as well as meat dishes and side dishes. Vegetarian and vegan options are also available, such as the truffle quinoa trio. The kitchen is complemented by a market featuring local and artisanal products.

The Campovalano Necropolis under the stars

What makes this festival unique is its connection to the Campovalano Necropolis, one of the most important archaeological sites in Central Italy, featuring tombs dating from the late Bronze Age to the Roman conquest. During the evenings, a free shuttle service and a tourist train connect the festival area to the site, where free torch-lit guided night tours are held, organized in collaboration with the "G. d'Annunzio" University of Chieti-Pescara.

Culture, music, and re-enactments

The program combines food, wine, and cultural outreach: stargazing evenings with the Abruzzo Astronomical Observatory, classical and chamber music concerts, educational workshops for children, demonstrations of ancient bronze casting, and historical re-enactments featuring the reconstruction of ancient funeral rites. A formula that transforms the festival into a true journey through Abruzzo's flavors, archaeology, and folk traditions.

A summer event in Abruzzo

Part of the "Campli Summer" calendar, the Campovalano Truffle Festival is an ideal opportunity to discover an authentic corner of Abruzzo, combining fine dining, nature, and historical heritage in a setting suitable for families and groups of friends.
