The Solemn Celebrations in Honor of Saint Flaviano are the main patronal feast of the municipality of Giulianova, in the province of Teramo, in the Abruzzo region. The celebrations are concentrated in the upper part of the city, the charming historic center overlooking the Adriatic, in the shadow of the majolica-tiled dome of the Cathedral of Saint Flaviano, and take place over several days around November 24th, the liturgical day dedicated to the saint.
Saint Flaviano was a bishop and martyr of Constantinople, venerated as the patron saint of Giulianova. The cult in the city is ancient and documented as early as the Middle Ages, testifying to a long tradition of popular devotion linked to the city's roots. After a long period of neglect in the second half of the twentieth century, the festival returned to prominence in 2009 thanks to the efforts of a dedicated committee, which recovered and enhanced the ancient local customs.
The spiritual heart of the festivities is the solemn procession with the statue of the patron saint through the streets of the historic center, accompanied by a marching band. There is also the exposition of the saint's relics, the Eucharistic concelebration presided over by the Bishop of the Diocese of Teramo-Atri, and celebrations in the Cathedral. The religious functions are accompanied by sacred music concerts with soloists and choirs, true moments of reflection and high artistic quality.
Alongside the religious dimension, the program offers significant cultural initiatives: art exhibitions dedicated to the saint and the local devotional heritage, historical-artistic conferences on the cult of Saint Flaviano, book presentations, and museum tours at the Civic Museum Complex. These activities make the festival not only a religious appointment but also an opportunity to rediscover the history and identity of the community.
An unmissable moment is the traditional Saint Flaviano Fair, which takes over Corso Garibaldi and Piazza della Libertร with stalls selling clothing, footwear, handicrafts, local products, and curiosities. The fair attracts visitors from all over the Teramo area and transforms the historic center into a lively open-air market, with stalls, entertainment for children, and musical performances enlivening the squares.
The Solemn Celebrations in Honor of Saint Flaviano represent a moment of strong community cohesion for Giulianova, where religious devotion intertwines with civic celebration, fair traditions, and culture. It is an ideal occasion to visit the upper village of this Abruzzo town in autumn and experience the authentic atmosphere of a centuries-old patronal feast.
The 2026 edition of the Solemn Celebrations in Honor of Saint Flaviano in Giulianova does not yet have official dates confirmed at the time of publication. Following custom, the patronal festivities take place in the historic center around November 24th, featuring the solemn procession, the exposition of relics, sacred music concerts, and the traditional Saint Flaviano Fair. The complete program will be released by the organizers in the weeks preceding the festival.
Giulianova is served by the A14 motorway (Giulianova-Mosciano Sant'Angelo exit) and by the Giulianova railway station on the Bologna-Bari Adriatic line. The festivities take place in the historic center (Upper Giulianova): from the lower part of the town and the station, it can be reached by car or on foot along the road leading up to the Cathedral.
The celebrations are held in the second half of November, around November 24th, the liturgical feast of Saint Flaviano.
Participation in religious services, the procession, the fair, and cultural initiatives is free and open to the public. Reservations may be required for some museum tours.
