A scenic walk through lavender fields and vineyards in the hills of Castelnuovo Don Bosco
CamminaCollina – Scent of Lavender and Local Wine is the event hosted by the Pro Loco of Castelnuovo Don Bosco, dedicated to the slow discovery of the local area in Castelnuovo Don Bosco, in the province of Asti, in the heart of the Piedmontese hills. It is a nature and gourmet walk that leads participants along an 8-kilometer route through the local hills during one of the most picturesque times of the year, when the lavender is in full bloom.
The trail offers open views of the Monferrato hills of Asti, amidst rows of vines and the scents of the countryside. Along the way, there is a photo stop at the lavender fields of Cascina Gelosia, where the shades of purple and the intense fragrance of the flowers provide one of the most photogenic moments of the day. It is a perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the colors and aromas of the Piedmontese countryside, far from the city pace.
The walk concludes at Tenuta Tamburnin, a local winery, where participants can tour the cellar and finish the afternoon with a traditional merenda sinoira—a rich, late-afternoon snack typical of Piedmontese tradition—accompanied by a tasting of local wines. The menu includes tomini cheese with preserves, focaccia, roast beef with salad, rice salad, vegetable frittatas, and a delicious lavender panna cotta.
CamminaCollina is one of the initiatives the Pro Loco organizes throughout the year to showcase the Castelnuovo Don Bosco area and its excellence. The event features different routes and themes depending on the season: from autumn walks among mills and farmhouses, with stops for polenta and local products, to spring editions dedicated to the lavender bloom. The common thread remains the same: combining nature, gastronomy, and conviviality in an outdoor day suitable for families and hikers alike.
Located in the Monferrato hills of Asti, Castelnuovo Don Bosco is best known as the birthplace of Don Bosco and a destination for spiritual pilgrimages, but it is also a village with a strong agricultural and winemaking heritage. CamminaCollina highlights this very landscape of vineyards, farmhouses, and rolling hills, offering residents and visitors an authentic way to discover the identity of the Province of Asti.
