Camminare il Monferrato: a network of trails to discover the hills

"Camminare il Monferrato" is a regional circuit of guided excursions that traverses the municipalities of the Monferrato hills season after season. The initiative is promoted by local councils in collaboration with the Sacro Monte di Crea Special Reserve, the Pietra da Cantoni Ecomuseum, and the CAI Casale Monferrato, with the aim of showcasing the landscape, traditions, and products of this corner of Piedmont on foot. Each stage is hosted by a different municipality and follows a proven format: a meeting point, a guided loop trail, and a final refreshment stop featuring local specialties.

The Odalengo Piccolo stage

Among the events on the calendar is the stop in Odalengo Piccolo, a tiny village in the Val Cerrina, located in the province of Alessandria, in the Casale Monferrato area. Here, the walk starts from the square in front of the Town Hall and winds through the vineyards, countryside, and woods surrounding the village. Along the way, you will encounter characteristic glimpses of this part of Monferrato: outcropping gypsum crystals, the remains of an ancient mill, certified truffle grounds monitored by the University of Turin, and the Pietra da Cantoni outcrops that gave the local Ecomuseum its name.

A walk paired with the white truffle

The Odalengo Piccolo stage is traditionally included in the program of the "Tufo & Tartufo" Regional White Truffle Fair, one of the village's most cherished autumn events. The walk thus becomes an opportunity to stroll through the very places where the prized white truffle grows before returning to the village to immerse yourself in the fair's atmosphere, complete with stalls of local products, truffle evaluations, and a convivial lunch.
