The sweet-and-savory ravioli of Camerata Nuova, nestled in the Simbruini Mountains
The Camerata Nuova Raviolo Festival is the most anticipated culinary event in Camerata Nuova, a village of a few hundred inhabitants perched at over 800 meters above sea level in the heart of the Simbruini Mountains Regional Natural Park, in the Metropolitan City of Rome, Lazio. Every year, the community gathers in Piazza Roma to celebrate a dish that embodies the town's identity and its pastoral heritage.
The Camerata raviolo is a truly unique sweet-and-savory specialty. The pasta dough, rolled by hand according to an ancient recipe passed down by local housewives, encases a filling of fresh, locally sourced sheep's milk ricotta, blended with a hint of sugar, a note of coffee, and a touch of anise liqueur. Despite its sweet heart, the raviolo is enjoyed as a main course: it is served with a savory mutton ragù, creating a surprising contrast between the sweetness of the filling and the saltiness of the sauce.
Visitors arriving in Piazza Roma will find a full lunch prepared by the Pro Loco volunteers:
All this takes place in a festive atmosphere, with live music and entertainment enlivening the afternoon in the village square.
The festival is also the perfect opportunity to discover a lesser-known corner of Lazio. Camerata Nuova sits in a basin surrounded by beech forests and high-altitude pastures. Nearby, you can visit the fascinating ruins of Camerata Vecchia, the village abandoned after a fire in the 19th century, and the vast Camposecco plateau, a popular destination for hiking and walking. A day at the Raviolo Festival thus combines the pleasure of fine dining with the discovery of the Simbruini wilderness.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Camerata Nuova, which has been promoting the territory's typical dishes and gastronomic products for over twenty years. Over the years, the festival has become a major attraction, drawing visitors from Rome and the Aniene Valley, all curious to taste a raviolo like no other.
The 24th edition of the Camerata Nuova Raviolo Festival was held on Sunday, June 21, 2026, in Piazza Roma, in the center of Camerata Nuova (RM). From the early afternoon, the Pro Loco stands distributed the famous Camerata ravioli, handmade by the village's local cooks, along with a grilled meat main course, seasonal sides, and local wine.
The day, set against the backdrop of the Simbruini Mountains, combined the tasting of typical dishes with live music and the convivial atmosphere of a village festival, attracting visitors from the Aniene Valley and Rome.
