Maritime tradition and the Stabiese biscuit in the Acqua della Madonna district
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In Castellammare di Stabia, in the Province of Naples, the Camarelle Festival is a celebration deeply rooted in the traditions of the fishermen of the Acqua della Madonna district. The camarelle were the small fishermen's houses, lined up along the coast and often carved into the rock or built with simple materials: for generations, they were the heart of the maritime life of this city, and this day of memory and flavors is dedicated to them.
The festival is held in conjunction with the Acqua della Madonna and Biscotto Festival, enriching the gastronomic and cultural offerings with activities linked to local memory and seafood cuisine. The district comes alive with food stalls, photographic exhibitions, and spaces dedicated to the history of the camarelle and ancient Stabiese fishing.
A key protagonist is the famous Castellammare biscuit, a treat with a characteristic elongated shape that, by secular tradition, is dipped in the water of the Madonna spring. Families from Naples and the surrounding province used to come to Castellammare, generation after generation, specifically to enjoy these biscuits accompanied by the slightly sparkling water that still flows on the seafront today.
The Acqua della Madonna is one of the most evocative spots on the Stabiese seafront: a historic spring and a fishermen's quarter in one, it tells the story of the deep bond between Castellammare di Stabia and its sea. The festival thus becomes an opportunity to rediscover this corner of the city, amidst the aromas of seafood cuisine, the stories of the elders, and handed-down traditions.
Part of the rich calendar of popular festivals in Campania, the Camarelle Festival is an invitation to experience the most authentic identity of Castellammare di Stabia, amidst maritime tradition, gastronomy, and popular devotion.
At the moment, an official 2026 edition of the Camarelle Festival and the Acqua della Madonna and Biscotto Festival in Castellammare di Stabia has not yet been announced. The festival, linked to the maritime tradition of the Acqua della Madonna district, is usually held in June. We recommend checking dates and the program on the official channels of the Municipality and local organizations before planning your visit.
Borgo dell'Acqua della Madonna, on the seafront of Castellammare di Stabia (Province of Naples, Campania).
By train: Castellammare di Stabia is connected to Naples by the Circumvesuviana line (Naples-Sorrento). By car: take the Castellammare di Stabia exit on the A3 Naples-Salerno motorway, then follow signs for the seafront. In summer, we recommend reaching the district on foot due to parking difficulties in the coastal area.
Free entry to the public event; food and drinks at the stalls are available for purchase.
