Two nights of beer, music, and comedy at the Multipurpose Sports Center
The Calvanico Beer Festival was born in July 2026 and immediately established itself as one of the most anticipated events of the summer in this small municipality in the province of Salerno, in Campania. The formula is the classic, tried-and-tested village festival: two consecutive nights, one large outdoor space, draft beer, long communal tables, and live shows. The fact that it was a first edition gave it a special flavor, as the entire village collaborated to bring it to life, from preparing the area to managing the stands.
The heart of the event is the Multipurpose Sports Center in Calvanico, the municipal facility that naturally becomes the community's meeting point in the summer: fields, open spaces, and covered areas are transformed into a festival zone, complete with a stage, beverage bars, and a kitchen. Since the village is located at an altitude of about 500 meters, the July evenings here are significantly cooler and more pleasant than on the plains and the Salerno coastโa non-secondary detail that explains why many festivals in the Picentini hinterland are concentrated during this period.
The two days in 2026 were built on different but complementary notes, both starting at 9:30 PM.
The programming choice clearly speaks to the target audience: families and local residents during the lunch and the first show, and a younger crowd for the late-night DJ set.
As in all beer festivals in the Campanian hinterland, the culinary aspect is not just a side dish but one of the main reasons to attend. The stands pair draft beer with the dishes that the local public expects to find on a summer evening: fried foods, sandwiches, traditional peasant pasta dishes, and homemade desserts. The Sunday community lunch represented the most iconic moment of the edition, as it recreated that sense of communal dining that remains a true collective ritual in small villages.
Calvanico has just over 1,400 inhabitants and is surrounded by the peaks of the Picentini Mountains, with Monte Mai exceeding 1,600 meters and the nearby Pizzo San Michele linked to the legend of the Archangel's apparition. The territory is rich in springs and covered by deciduous forests, chestnut groves, and, at higher altitudes, beech forests. It is a land of chestnuts and Giffoni hazelnuts, products that define the local economy and cuisine and return in the autumn, when the chestnut festival takes the baton from the summer events.
The patron saint is Saint Michael the Archangel, celebrated on September 29th. The Beer Festival thus fits into a village calendar that, despite the modest size of a small municipality in the Irno-Solofrana Mountain Community, manages to span multiple seasons with recognizable events.
Those arriving from Salerno or the Irno Valley find a completely different setting in just over half an hour by car: mountain air, quiet roads, and a festival where there is no entrance fee to be among the people. It is the type of event that showcases the less touristy side of Campania, that of the inland villages, where the evening is built on word-of-mouth and the quality of hospitality depends on volunteers. For a first edition, the debut in July 2026 laid solid foundations.
In 2026, Calvanico inaugurated its Beer Festival, two days at the Multipurpose Sports Center designed as a village festival open to the entire Picentini Mountains area. The formula alternated live entertainment and conviviality: draft beer and food stands under the stage, with the start of the evenings set at 9:30 PM for both dates.
On Saturday, July 4th, the tone was comedic, with a monologue and cabaret by Antonio Manganiello and a long DJ set to follow. Sunday, July 5th, started earlier at noon with a community lunch from 12:30 PM, then returned in the evening with a live performance by Franco Calone, on stage with his "Sognavo di cantare" tour, and closed once again with music from a DJ set.
As it was a debut, the 2026 edition also served to gauge public response: in a municipality of just over 1,400 inhabitants, filling two consecutive nights means attracting visitors from Fisciano, Baronissi, and the entire Irno Valley, in the province of Salerno.
