A toast under the stars in the heart of the Maremma

Every year, on the night of San Lorenzo, the medieval village of Suvereto, in the province of Livorno, hosts Calici di Stelle, one of the most beloved food and wine events on the Tuscan coast. The event is part of the major national initiative promoted by Città del Vino and the Movimento Turismo del Vino, which on August 10th brings squares and villages across Italy to life to celebrate quality wine under the sky of shooting stars.

The tasting trail

For one night, the historic center of Suvereto becomes a large open-air lounge within the walls. The tasting trail winds through the village streets, from the entrance arch to the evocative Rocca Aldobrandesca, and offers over one hundred labels of wines produced in Suvereto and the Val di Cornia, brought together by the Consorzio Suvereto Val di Cornia Wine. Accompanying the glasses are gourmet bites prepared by the village's merchants and restaurateurs, for a journey through the excellence of the territory.

Wine, sommeliers, and oenological tradition

Wine service is provided by the sommeliers of the FISAR Costa Etrusca delegation, who guide visitors in discovering local denominations. The Val di Cornia and Suvereto represent one of the most interesting wine-growing areas in Tuscany, with bold reds and niche productions that have helped make Suvereto one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy and a Cittaslow city.

Music, entertainment, and stargazing

The evening is not just about wine: between tastings, the village comes alive with live music, street bands, and performances in the main squares. At the Rocca Aldobrandesca, enthusiasts can participate in stargazing guided by the Associazione Astrofili di Piombino, to capture the magic of the night of San Lorenzo and its shooting stars.

Calici di Stelle is also the perfect opportunity to visit Suvereto, a medieval jewel nestled in the hills of the Livorno Maremma, just a few kilometers from the sea of the Etruscan Coast.
