Wine, jazz music, and Iblean flavors in the shadow of Torre Cabrera
Calici dei Cabrera – Loving Wine is the food and wine festival that, every year between late spring and early summer, transforms the Villa Comunale of Pozzallo into an open-air lounge dedicated to the wines and flavors of the Iblean territory. Promoted by the Municipality of Pozzallo, in the province of Ragusa, and funded by the Regional Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Mediterranean Fisheries, the event takes place in the Art Nouveau setting that rises next to the majestic Torre Cabrera, a symbol of the city and an ancient stronghold of the County of Modica.
The common thread of the event is the promotion of the Val di Noto and Cerasuolo di Vittoria denominations. At the "I Calici del Conte" tasting stations, visitors can sample the great reds and whites of the area—from Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG to Nero d'Avola, from Frappato to Moscato Bianco—paired with local, zero-kilometer specialties. The event is supported by the local wine routes, the Regional Wine Cellar of Sicily, the ONAV delegation of Modica, and the consortia protecting Iblean DOP and IGP excellence, from Monti Iblei oil to Pachino tomatoes, Ispica carrots, and Ragusano cheese.
Alongside the tasting counters, the program features cooking shows dedicated to traditional cuisine with a modern twist—the "Countess's Dishes," fresh pasta with almond pesto, and hand-rolled "ncucciato" couscous in both fish and vegetarian versions—as well as guided tastings of extra virgin olive oil led by expert oleologists. There are also talks on agricultural biodiversity as a driver for tourism, highlighting Pozzallo's historical role as a commercial gateway to the Mediterranean.
Each evening is marked by live music, with a program that alternates between pop and jazz: the "Jazz & Wine" formula has become the festival's signature over the years, perfectly blending high-quality wine with the pleasure of listening in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere.
Born in 2023, the event has grown edition after edition to become a benchmark for wine lovers in Sicily, attracting buyers, enthusiasts, and tourists to the charming Villa Comunale overlooking the sea. Calici dei Cabrera thus combines food and wine promotion, cultural identity, and hospitality, telling the story and Mediterranean vocation of Pozzallo through its wine.
The fourth edition of Calici dei Cabrera – Loving Wine was held from June 12 to 14, 2026, in the Villa Comunale of Pozzallo, next to Torre Cabrera, coinciding with the celebrations for the city's 197th anniversary.
Friday, June 12 opened with the talk "The Gold and Ruby of the South-East: Agricultural biodiversity as a driver for international tourism" and a guided tasting of extra virgin oils led by oleologist Enzo Signorelli. Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14 featured the "Countess's Dishes" cooking shows, with fresh pasta with almond pesto and hand-rolled "ncucciato" couscous in fish and vegetarian versions.
The evenings, hosted by Carmen Attardi, alternated between pop and jazz, while the "I Calici del Conte" stations offered wines from the Val di Noto and Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG. Guests included a delegation from the national Vespa Club rally and Catalan buyers. The initiative was described by Mayor Roberto Ammatuna as "qualified and well-attended," with strong tourist and cultural value.
Pozzallo is located on the south-eastern coast of Sicily, in the province of Ragusa. By car, it can be reached via the SP66 and SS115 roads; the nearest airport is Comiso (about 50 km away), followed by Catania-Fontanarossa. The Pozzallo train station is served by the Syracuse–Gela line.
The event takes place in the Villa Comunale of Pozzallo, in the city center next to Torre Cabrera, with activities primarily in the evening.
Access to the area is free; tastings are offered via wine glasses and dedicated tickets at the producers' stands.
