Three days of flavor, music, and tradition centered around the Mazzarrone PGI grape
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Mazzarrone PGI Table Grape International Festival is the premier food and wine event in the small town of Mazzarrone, located in the province of Catania, in the heart of south-eastern Sicily. Every September, the village transforms into a vibrant fair celebrating the product that has made its name famous throughout Italy and abroad: the Mazzarrone table grape, one of the few Italian grapes to hold the PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) status.
Cultivated on hillside terraces bordering the provinces of Catania, Ragusa, and Caltanissetta, Mazzarrone grapes are prized for their sweetness, crunchiness, and quality. The festival was created to showcase this excellence and the entire local agricultural supply chain during the peak of the harvest season. The event blends product promotion, popular entertainment, and community identity.
For three days, the center of Mazzarrone comes alive with a rich calendar of activities:
The Grape Festival is organized by the Municipality of Mazzarrone in collaboration with local associations and the Pro Loco, and over the years it has become a defining event not only for the town's residents but for the entire Calatino area and south-eastern Sicily. Admission to events and concerts is free, fostering a convivial atmosphere that blends flavors, music, and rural traditions.
The 2026 edition of the Mazzarrone PGI Table Grape International Festival will mark the eighteenth year of the event. Once again, the Municipality of Mazzarrone, in the province of Catania, will celebrate its PGI grapes with three days of tastings, an exhibition of Sicilian excellence, cooking shows, folk parades, the presentation of the Grappolo d'Oro award, and free evening concerts in Piazza della Concordia.
Official dates and the program for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced. The event is traditionally held in September, during the peak of the harvest season. The detailed calendar, including musical guests and schedules, will be communicated by the organizers via the Municipality's official channels and the festival's Facebook page.
Mazzarrone is located in south-eastern Sicily, in the province of Catania, a short distance from the border with the provinces of Ragusa and Caltanissetta. By car, it can be reached via the SS117bis and the provincial roads connecting Caltagirone and Vittoria. The nearest airports are Catania Fontanarossa and Comiso. The reference railway station is in Caltagirone.
Admission to the events, the exhibition fair, and the concerts in Piazza della Concordia is free. For the updated program, we recommend checking the official channels of the Municipality of Mazzarrone and the festival's Facebook page.
The event takes place during the peak harvest season: it is the ideal opportunity to buy and taste PGI grapes directly from the producers. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing for the outdoor evening events.
