The traditional pasta of Trapani takes center stage in Petrosino this summer

Along the seafront of Petrosino, a small coastal town in the province of Trapani overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea and just a few kilometers from Marsala, the Busiate Festival celebrates one of the most beloved dishes of Trapani's culinary tradition. The event takes place at the Litorale di Biscione, along the Lungomare Biscione, the heart of Petrosino's summer life.
Busiata (or busiate in the plural) is a traditional fresh pasta typical of western Sicily, particularly in the Trapani area. Its name comes from busa, the thin stem of a marsh grass around which the pasta was traditionally rolled by hand to achieve its characteristic elongated spiral shape. Today, busiate is almost always served with Trapani-style pesto, made from fresh tomatoes, almonds, garlic, basil, and pecorino cheese: a fragrant condiment that tells the story of centuries of rural culture and Mediterranean exchange.
The festival is part of the "Di Mare e di Vino" summer program, a series of events promoted by the Municipality of Petrosino that brings the coastline to life for much of the summer with concerts, dialect comedies, children's shows, popular food festivals, and cultural moments. The Busiate evening combines the tasting of the typical dish with a cabaret show, set in the convivial and family-friendly atmosphere typical of Sicilian village festivals.
The Busiate Festival is a perfect opportunity for those visiting western Sicily who want to experience the genuine flavors of the Trapani area in a welcoming, local setting.
The program for the 2026 edition of the Busiate Festival in Petrosino has not yet been published. Based on previous editions, the event takes place in the height of summer on the Litorale di Biscione and features the tasting of busiata with Trapani-style pesto, accompanied by entertainment and cabaret as part of the 'Di Mare e di Vino' summer festival. Dates and the detailed program will be announced by the Municipality of Petrosino in the months leading up to the event.
