Puppet theatre comes to Murazzano

Every summer, the International Puppet Theatre Festival Burattinarte Summertime transforms the squares and courtyards of the Langhe and Roero into open-air stages. One of the most anticipated stops is Murazzano, a scenic village in the Alta Langa, in the heart of Piedmont. The show takes place in Piazza Umberto I, the town's living room, where puppets, marionettes, and variety acts meet their audience under the summer sky.

A festival spread across the hills

Burattinarte is more than just a one-day event: it is a widespread festival that runs from June 25 to September 6, visiting numerous towns in the Langhe and Roero—from Alba to Bra, La Morra to Cherasco, Grinzane Cavour to Guarene, and reaching as far as Murazzano and Novello. Founded in 1994 and directed by Claudio Giri and Consuelo Conterno for the Burattinarte Cultural Association of Alba, the festival is now one of the most recognizable puppet theatre events in Piedmont, bridging the gap between popular street performance and artistic research.

The Murazzano stop features "Varietà Prestige" by Francesca Zoccarato, scheduled for Sunday, July 12 at 6:30 PM in Piazza Umberto I, in its national premiere. This performance weaves together the charm of variety theatre, magic, and comedy with the refined art of figure manipulation, designed to captivate both adults and children.

Popular and international art

Burattinarte combines tradition, innovation, and inclusion: over the years, it has hosted artists from Italy, Chile, Denmark, France, Spain, and Argentina. Alongside evening and afternoon shows, the festival includes intergenerational workshops, string puppets, glove puppets, miniature theatres, and social initiatives, making the experience rich and accessible to everyone.

Murazzano and the Alta Langa

Known for its PDO cheese—the famous Robiola di Murazzano—and the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Hal, the town of Murazzano offers some of the most expansive views in the Alta Langa. Attending a Burattinarte show here means combining the enchantment of puppet theatre with the discovery of an authentic village, far from mass tourism circuits, in one of the most fascinating areas of Piedmont.
