A day of independent music and local bands at Parco Montauti
The Brutto e Fatto Male Festival is one of the most intriguing and beloved highlights of the summer in Castellina Marittima, a small hillside town in the province of Pisa, Tuscany. Behind a deliberately self-deprecating name lies a true celebration of the local independent music scene: a full day dedicated to local bands, performed with passion and no frills, attracting enthusiasts and curious visitors from across the Terre di Pisa every year.
The festival takes place at the Luigi Montauti Public Park, the green space that hosts most of the town's summer events. The festivities begin in the early afternoon and continue until late at night, with a non-stop succession of performances. The park is set up with two alternating stages, ensuring there is never a moment of silence: as one band packs up, the next is already ready to play.
The heart of Brutto e Fatto Male is the all-local lineup, spanning various genres: from rock to punk, singer-songwriter to indie, in a deliberately eclectic program open to anyone ready to take the stage. Alongside live concerts, the day is enriched by:
The festival is the result of a collaboration between local associations: the Pro Loco of Castellina Marittima, the Ultima Eventi association, and the nearby MusicaW Festival, a historic independent music event in the town. It is this deep community rootedness that gives Brutto e Fatto Male its genuine character: not a large commercial event, but a party created by local musicians for their audience, where admission is free and the atmosphere is the relaxed, convivial one of Tuscan summers.
Overlooking the hills that slope down toward the coast, Castellina Marittima is famous for its alabaster and its artisanal traditions. A trip to the festival is also the perfect opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Terre di Pisa, far from the main tourist routes, amidst views of the Pisan countryside and the hospitality of its local associations.
The Brutto e Fatto Male Festival 2026 returns to the Luigi Montauti Public Park in Castellina Marittima for another day of live music with free admission, confirmed in the summer events calendar of the Terre di Pisa.
As per tradition, you can expect a program built around local bands from the area, with two alternating stages, DJ sets, and live painting sessions, all accompanied by a refreshment area managed by volunteers.
The 2026 edition is confirmed for August 24 at the Luigi Montauti Public Park. The detailed program with the band lineup has not yet been published: it will be announced by the organizers (Pro Loco Castellina Marittima, Ultima Eventi, and MusicaW Festival) in the weeks leading up to the event via their social channels.
Based on past editions, the day runs from the afternoon until late at night with numerous all-local bands of various genres, alternating on two stages, interspersed with DJ sets and accompanied by live painting and a refreshment area with sandwiches and drinks.
Castellina Marittima can be reached by car via the SS1 Aurelia (Cecina or Rosignano exit) heading inland, or via the FI-PI-LI expressway taking the exit towards the Pisa South area. The Luigi Montauti Public Park is located within the town.
Admission to the festival is free.
A refreshment area serving sandwiches, street food, and drinks is available on-site.
For details and program updates, you can contact the Pro Loco Castellina Marittima (tel. +39 327 0908580) or follow the organizers' social media channels.
