The international brass music festival on the Ritten plateau
Brass Pyramide is a brass music festival (Blasmusikfestival) held on the Ritten plateau, in the municipality of Ritten, in the Province of Bolzano (South Tyrol). The event is organized by the Musikkapelle Unterinn, the local brass band of Auna di Sotto, and takes place on the picturesque "auf der Weid" meadow, just before the village of Auna di Sotto (Unterinn), along the famous Keschtnweg chestnut trail, nestled in the forest.
The name combines two local identities: Brass refers to the music, while Pyramide pays homage to the famous earth pyramids (Erdpyramiden) of Auna di Sotto, spectacular erosion formations that are among the most iconic natural attractions of Ritten. The three shapes in the logo evoke both the pistons of a trumpet and the profile of the earth pyramids.
The event is built on three pillars: musical excellence, with a carefully curated selection of groups; international exchange, bringing together musicians from South Tyrol, Austria, and Germany for a true musical and human encounter beyond borders; and support for young talent, with a special focus on emerging groups from the Alpine region. The heart of the festival is the Kapelle Brass Pyramide, a special ensemble featuring around twenty musicians from various regional bands.
For two days, the "auf der Weid" meadow transforms into an open-air stage where village bands, brass ensembles, and Tanzlmusi groups perform from 11 a.m. until late at night. Highlights include the traditional Sunday parade (Festumzug), the Voting Challenge that involves the audience in selecting emerging groups, and a wide range of food and drink options featuring South Tyrolean specialties. The event takes place in any weather, following the motto: there is no bad weather, only the wrong clothing.
Brass Pyramide is designed for families, too: there is an on-site campsite and a dedicated children's area with a bouncy castle, a giant sandbox, and games. Admission is free, and the panoramic location in the Ritten woods—easily accessible from Bolzano via the Ritten cable car and the historic Ritten railway—makes it an ideal destination for a spring outing dedicated to music and Alpine tradition.
Brass Pyramide 2026 was held on Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May 24, 2026, on the "auf der Weid" meadow in Auna di Sotto, in the municipality of Ritten (BZ), with free admission. Two days of concerts from noon until late at night, featuring the traditional Sunday morning parade.
On Saturday, the stage was animated by, among others, Bürgerkapelle Kaltern, Kapelle So&So, Buamteifl, the evening headliner Viera Blech, and Blaskapelle Gehörsturz, as well as the winners of the Voting Challenge. On Sunday, following the Festumzug, performances included Musikkapelle Kiens, Wüdara Musi, RienzSound, Kapelle Brass Pyramide, Da Blechhauf'n, Eschenauer Tanzlmusi, Buena Banda, and Sunnseit Brass.
