The Kastelruther Spatzen Christmas Concert is one of the most cherished Advent traditions in Castelrotto/Kastelruth, in the province of Bolzano, nestled in the heart of South Tyrol at the foot of the Sciliar massif. The famous folk music group, which hails from this very village and is among the most beloved in the German-speaking world, returns home every December to offer fans an evening dedicated to the spirit of Christmas.

The concert takes place at the Tennishalle in Telfen, a tennis facility located halfway between Castelrotto and Siusi/Seis, about 2 km from both towns. The venue is transformed to welcome the audience in a warm, festive atmosphere; doors open in the early afternoon, allowing guests to enjoy food and drinks before the show begins.

A Program of Music and Tradition

The evening is more than just a concert; it is a true Christmas ritual. Alongside the Kastelruther Spatzen, who perform their most beautiful and poignant Christmas carols, the stage features brass players (Turmbläser), the Kastelruther Viergesang male choir, and the delicate sounds of the harp. A highly anticipated highlight is the reading of the Christmas story, voiced by Norbert Rier, the group's iconic frontman. The event concludes with a grand candlelight finale, immersing the entire hall in the intimate atmosphere of Advent.

Castelrotto and South Tyrol at Christmas

Attending this concert is also a wonderful opportunity to experience the Christmas season in South Tyrol, when the villages of the Sciliar plateau and the Alpe di Siusi light up with festive decorations, markets, and traditions. During the concert days, it is often possible to meet the musicians at the Castelrotto Christmas market, accompanied by Alpine horn players and local brass bands. The deep bond between the group and their community makes this evening a defining event for Castelrotto and the entire Trentino-Alto Adige region.

How to reach Telfen

To facilitate travel to the Tennishalle in Telfen, a free shuttle service is provided from Castelrotto and Siusi, with a stop at the Telfen roundabout, just a few minutes' walk from the concert venue. Limited parking is available for those arriving by car, with designated spaces for tourist buses.
