Open-air band concerts on summer evenings in Collepietra
Every summer, the Musikkapelle Steinegg, the local brass band of the small village of Collepietra (Steinegg in German), transforms the village Festplatz into an open-air stage. The musicians perform in their traditional South Tyrolean attire, offering a diverse program for all ages and tastes: marches from the great Alpine band tradition, folk melodies, ancient "Weisen," and contemporary compositions. It is one of those authentic evenings where the local community gathers, joined by guests and tourists vacationing in this corner of the Dolomites.
Collepietra/Steinegg is a village within the municipality of Cornedo all'Isarco (Karneid), in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, in the heart of the Dolomitenregion Eggental (Val d'Ega). The village is known as Sternendorf, the "Village of Stars," due to its astronomical tradition and exceptionally clear skies, making it a prime spot for stargazing. The band's evening concerts, which conclude around 11:00 PM, fit perfectly into this atmosphere: live music while the first stars light up overhead.
In South Tyrolean villages, the brass band (Musikkapelle) is much more than just a group of enthusiasts; it is a pillar of community life, deeply rooted in local history and customs. The open-air concert—the classic Platzkonzert—is a shared, free, and open-to-all festive moment that defines summer evenings in most South Tyrolean villages. In Collepietra, this tradition repeats year after year at the Peter-Anich-Weg Festplatz, just a short walk from the town center.
Admission is free. Concerts are generally held on Wednesday evenings from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Visitors arriving by car will find parking along the main road near Café Christl on the Dorfplatz in Steinegg, from where a short walk leads to the Festplatz. It is an ideal opportunity to combine a holiday in Val d'Ega with an exploration of the local folk culture.
For the summer of 2026, the Musikkapelle Steinegg confirms four dates at the Collepietra Festplatz (Steinegg), all on Wednesday evenings starting at 9:00 PM and ending around 11:00 PM. Wearing traditional South Tyrolean attire, the musicians will alternate between marches, ancient folk melodies, and more recent compositions, for an evening designed for audiences of all ages. Admission is free.
Each evening follows the same format: an open-air concert by the band in traditional costume, with a repertoire that combines marches, folk melodies of the Alpine tradition, and contemporary compositions. Performances take place at the Steinegg Festplatz from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
The detailed musical program for each evening is finalized by the band closer to the dates.
