Borgo di Gusto: the taste of authentic Abruzzo

Borgo di Gusto is the most anticipated summer event in Civitaluparella, a small town of just over three hundred inhabitants in the province of Chieti, in the heart of the Abruzzo hinterland. The village, perched at an altitude of 900 meters on a rocky spur between the Sangro River and the Parello stream, opens its alleys and ancient squares for an evening dedicated to the flavors, traditions, and atmosphere of the Abruzzo mountains.

A culinary journey through the village alleys

The event transforms the medieval historic center into a food and wine itinerary: you walk through alleys and narrow stairways up to Piazza Marconi, where the town hall and the Church of San Pietro Apostolo overlook the square, while at higher elevations, you can glimpse the remains of the residence of the Caldora family, the feudal lords of the territory. Along the route, ancient stone houses open up to host temporary cellars and small shops, and at each stop, local producers and artisans share their deep connection with their land.

Traditional flavors

The heart of the festival lies in the typical products of inland Abruzzo, prepared according to ancient local recipes. Specialties you can taste include:

• Foglie e patan, the traditional peasant dish of greens and potatoes
• Pallotte cac'e ove, the famous bread, cheese, and egg meatballs
• Tagliariel e faciuol, handmade tagliatelle with beans
• Artisanal cured meats and mountain cheeses

A Pro Loco event

The event is organized by the Pro Loco Civitaluparella Caldora, which manages the route and visitor hospitality every year. Admission is free, and a shuttle service is available to reach the historic center.
