A weekend exploring the village of Montelepre, between towers, churches, and ancient flavors.
The Borghi dei Tesori Fest is the "widespread" version of the renowned Le Vie dei Tesori festival: for three weekends in May, dozens of small Sicilian towns open their monuments, churches, palaces, and usually restricted sites to the public, offering guided tours at a symbolic price and experiences rooted in local traditions. In 2026, the event, now in its sixth edition, involves twenty-five Sicilian villages spread across three weekends.
The Municipality of Montelepre, in the province of Palermo, is participating for the third consecutive year and is featured during the second weekend, scheduled for Saturday, May 16 and Sunday, May 17, 2026. The initiative is promoted by the Le Vie dei Tesori Foundation in collaboration with the Municipal Tourism Department, the Pro Loco, civil service volunteers, and local cultural associations.
The village's landmark is the Torre Ventimiglia, one of the few examples of a residential donjon in Sicily: three floors reaching twenty-four meters in height, with walls over two meters thick. Nearby, the itinerary includes the Mother Church, which houses a miraculous Crucifix linked to a fascinating popular legend, and the Church of Santa Rosalia, as well as the most picturesque corners of the historic center.
The most delicious part of the visit is tasting the pasta all'antica, a De.Co. product that in Montelepre is not a pasta dish, but a precious pastry: a shortcrust tart filled with biancomangiare cream, a recipe handed down since the 1950s and still prepared today by local pastry shops. During the festival, workshops and tastings dedicated to this specialty are scheduled.
A village in the Palermo hinterland also famous for the historical events involving the bandit Salvatore Giuliano, Montelepre embraces the festival as an opportunity to showcase its heritage. Rounding out the town's spring calendar is the Corpus Domini Flower Festival, a carpet of flowers created along the main street that transforms the roads into temporary works of art. The Borghi dei Tesori Fest thus serves as a privileged gateway to discovering an authentic corner of Sicily, far from mass tourism circuits.
The 2026 edition of the Borghi dei Tesori Fest featured Montelepre during the second of the three weekends in May, Saturday the 16th and Sunday the 17th. The itinerary offered guided tours of the Torre Ventimiglia, a rare example of a twenty-four-meter-high residential donjon, the Mother Church with its miraculous Crucifix, and the Church of Santa Rosalia, accompanied by insights into the history, architecture, and landscape of the Palermo village.
The delicious heart of the event was the tasting of the pasta all'antica, a De.Co. pastry made with shortcrust pastry and biancomangiare cream, with dedicated workshops. Completing the municipality's cultural offering was the Corpus Domini Flower Festival along the main street.
Saturday, May 16 and Sunday, May 17, 2026, during the second weekend of the Borghi dei Tesori Fest.
