The Torretta Living Nativity is one of the most evocative Christmas re-enactments in the province of Palermo. During the holidays, the ancient village of Torretta, perched on the mountains overlooking the Conca d'Oro, comes alive with scenes of past life set in late 19th-century Sicilyโthe era of The Leopard. Among the old stone houses and steep staircases of the historic district, performers reconstruct a vanished world of farmers and artisans.
The heart of the event is the portrayal of ancient crafts: blacksmiths, carpenters, shoemakers, spinners, and many other artisans animate the village streets, each in their own workshop. The scenes unfold along a route starting from Via Montello, known for its long staircase, guiding visitors toward the Nativity manger in a crescendo of atmosphere and charm.
The journey is punctuated by traditional flavors: along the narrow streets, visitors can taste local products, from faccia di vecchia and fried bread to vastedde, local olive oil, caciocavallo cheese, and traditional Torretta Christmas sweets. A Christmas market completes the experience with local crafts and gastronomic specialties.
Organized by the N'Capu u Cummuni Cultural Association, the Torretta Living Nativity has become a highly anticipated date on the Palermo province's Christmas calendar. Every year, the event involves dozens of local performers, celebrating the historical heritage and folk traditions of this corner of Sicily. A symbolic entrance fee helps support the organization of the event.
The setting winds through the ancient village of Torretta, in the district known as "supra u comuni," starting from Via Montello. Torretta is located in the heart of the Sicily Region, a short distance from Palermo, making it an excellent destination for those wanting to experience Christmas away from the tourist crowds, immersed in the authenticity of a small Sicilian town.
The 2026 edition of the Torretta Living Nativity does not yet have official dates. Traditionally, the event is held during the Christmas season, between late December and Epiphany, in the ancient village of Torretta (Palermo). The detailed program will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
Torretta is about 25 km from Palermo. By car, it can be reached via the A29 motorway (Capaci/Carini exit), continuing inland; alternatively, bus connections are available from Palermo. The nearest airport is Palermo-Punta Raisi (Falcone-Borsellino).
The event generally takes place in the afternoon, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The entrance fee is symbolic (approximately 1 euro). We recommend wearing comfortable shoes to navigate the staircases and cobblestones of the ancient village.
The village is best explored on foot: it is advisable to park in the areas outside the historic center. Don't miss the tastings of local products along the route.
