Four evenings of craft beer, street food, and live music in the historic center of Sant'Egidio del Monte Albino
Birra in Borgo is the craft beer festival of Sant'Egidio del Monte Albino, a town in the Agro Nocerino Sarnese area in the province of Salerno, Campania. Every year in the second half of August, the town's ancient heart—Piazza Gian Battista Ferrajoli and the inner courtyard of Palazzo Ferrajoli—fills with bars, beer taps, tables, and an outdoor stage for four evenings dedicated to quality beer, Campanian street food, and live music. The formula is simple and well-tested: admission is free, you stroll among the stands, sample the offerings, and stay to enjoy the evening concert.
The festival began in 2016 and within a few years has become one of the most popular summer events in the Agro Nocerino Sarnese, drawing thousands of visitors from neighboring towns—Angri, Pagani, Nocera Inferiore, Sarno—and the entire Vesuvius area. The event is organized by the Associazione Genius Eventi of Sant'Egidio del Monte Albino, which in 2026 will host its ninth edition, scheduled from Thursday, August 20 to Sunday, August 23.
The heart of the festival is the craft breweries hosted in the square's stands, featuring Italian and international labels on tap. In the 2025 edition, there were eight breweries present, with a selection that included gluten-free beers and a honey beer. Alongside the taps, a large food area offers local specialties, in a combination that has become the event's trademark.
Each evening features its own concert: the square serves as a natural stage, and the program alternates between cover bands, tribute acts, and artists from the Neapolitan scene, with DJ sets to close out the night. In 2025, the lineup included Skizzekea, Le Iene Live Band with special guest Tony Tammaro, the Pako Sasso Band, and Vanessa Caputo. This is when the festival hits its peak: glass in hand, a packed square, and music until late at night.
In 2026, Birra in Borgo is part of VivaCultura, the summer festival of the Municipality of Sant'Egidio del Monte Albino, which this year is titled «The roots of the future» and runs from July 15 to September 20, featuring theater, music, monologues, and book presentations. Performances are held in the same historic center spaces—the square and the courtyard of Palazzo Ferrajoli—and admission is free. Birra in Borgo represents its most popular and crowded moment, nestled between the late August events and the historic I Cortili della Storia festival organized by the Pro Loco in September.
Sant'Egidio del Monte Albino is a town at the foot of the Lattari Mountains, just a few kilometers from Pompeii and half an hour from the Amalfi Coast: those visiting the area in August can easily include an evening at Birra in Borgo in a broader itinerary. The value of the festival lies not only in the quality of the beers but in the atmosphere: narrow streets, historic buildings, shared tables, and that small-town festival vibe that remains a collective end-of-summer ritual in Campania. It is an event suitable for families, provided you are prepared for the crowds on the peak nights.
The stands open in the evening and attendance grows after dinner, especially on weekends: those who want to taste in peace should arrive early. Parking in the center is limited, so it is best to leave your car in the outskirts of the town and walk to the square. Dates and times may be subject to change: before traveling, it is always useful to check for updates on the Associazione Genius Eventi social media channels.
