The summer program in Angri featuring Castello Doria, auteur theatre, music, and shooting stars
"Angri, a Summer to Experience" is the summer program promoted and organized by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Angri, in the province of Salerno, in the heart of the Agro Nocerino-Sarnese. This is not just a simple sequence of evenings: the festival is designed as a true cultural manifesto that weaves together auteur theatre, grand symphonic and pop music, open-air cinema, the enhancement of historical memory, and social inclusion. The common thread is the desire to return the city's iconic landmarks to its citizens, starting with Castello Doria, the fortress that dominates the historic centre and becomes a natural stage during the summer.
In 2026, the program is presented under the "Angricultura" brand, the new visual identity chosen by the municipal administration to provide continuity to long-term cultural programming. The Councillor for Culture, Gina Fusco, described it as the meeting of Art, Belonging, and Aggregation: three words that well explain the spirit of the event, where the value of the show is never separated from that of the community. Mayor Alfonso Scoppa summarized the choice with a clear formula: "culture is not just entertainment: it is meeting, sharing, identity, and growth." The stated goal is that "the squares, Castello Doria, and all of Angri's iconic places return to being meeting spaces."
The programming is intentionally multidisciplinary, so as to speak to different audiences over the same weeks. The festival features:
Castello Doria and its courtyard host most of the evening shows; the Villa Comunale traditionally hosts the open-air cinema, while Piazza Doria is the space for the most popular and well-attended evenings. Some events move to Fondo Badia and the historic centre, in order to involve different neighbourhoods of the city. The choice to distribute the events is consistent with the festival's philosophy: bringing culture out of closed spaces and into the daily life of the town.
Angri is in a strategic position for those visiting Campania: just minutes from Pompeii, behind the Amalfi Coast, and a short distance from Salerno and Naples. Those passing through here in the summer can combine a visit to the great archaeological sites with a free evening at Castello Doria, where the audience is almost always composed largely of residents: an authentic way to understand how culture is experienced in a municipality of the Agro Nocerino-Sarnese. The free admission policy until capacity is reached makes the experience accessible to everyone, including families.
For the 2026 edition, the Municipality of Angri has allocated a total investment of approximately 40,000 euros to the program, of which 20,000 was drawn from the reserve fund. This figure speaks volumes about how much the administration considers summer programming not an accessory, but a strategic resource for the development of the territory and for the social cohesion of the city.
The 2026 edition of the summer program in Angri (province of Salerno, Campania) is the most structured in recent years: 29 initiatives distributed from July 31 to October 3, presented in a press conference at the Casa del Cittadino on July 23, 2026, along with the new "Angricultura" visual identity. The curtain rises on July 31 with Gianfranco Gallo in "Captivo", accompanied by a musical ensemble, in the courtyard of Castello Doria; the closing, on October 3, is entrusted to the concert by Gabriele Esposito, also at the Castle.
Among the most anticipated moments are the meeting-show with Giancarlo Giannini on August 8, the tribute to Fabrizio De Andrรฉ by the Quartetto Malinconico on August 2, the Night of San Lorenzo on August 9 with astronomical observations guided from the castle tower, the concert of the Campania International Symphony Orchestra conducted by Dieter Holzapfel, and the four evenings of cinema under the stars. In September, the calendar expands to the "Braccia Aperte" Solidarity Festival at Fondo Badia, the Wondercon comics and gaming fair in the Villa Doria Gardens, and the Historical Palio of the City of Angri.
The Municipality has invested approximately 40,000 euros in the festival. The Councillor for Culture, Gina Fusco, explained the goal: "We want this summer in Angri to be an experience full of emotions to live and share."
Program released by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Angri and local press at the end of July 2026: dates and times may be subject to change. Some sources place the symphonic concert and the puppet show on swapped days between August 21 and 23: it is advisable to check the Municipality's channels before leaving.
By car: Take the Angri exit on the A3 Naples-Salerno motorway, then follow signs for the centre. By train: Angri station on the Naples-Salerno line, a few minutes' walk from the historic centre and Castello Doria. By plane: Naples-Capodichino Airport (approx. 40 km) and Salerno-Costa d'Amalfi Airport.
The main events at Castello Doria have free admission until available seats are filled; arriving a little early is recommended. Some initiatives hosted in the program (fairs, Palio, third-party events) may have their own access procedures.
Most shows start at 9:00 PM; some concerts and meetings start at 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM.
The evenings take place outdoors: bring a light sweater for the later hours. Angri is a good, affordable base for visiting Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast, and the Sarno Valley.
