The summer program of the Municipality of Nocera Superiore featuring music, theater, folk traditions, and archaeology
Nocera Estate is the summer festival promoted by the Municipality of Nocera Superiore, in the province of Salerno, with the support of the Salerno Chamber of Commerce. Rather than a festival concentrated over a few days, it is a widespread calendar that accompanies residents and visitors from the second half of July until the end of September, rotating through parks, squares, the Municipal Villa, and church courtyards. The core idea is to highlight the city's symbolic sites and its historical, artistic, and religious heritage while offering free, open-air social opportunities.
The summer program of Nocera Superiore has a recent but well-established history. In 2025, the festival was called "Vivi la Cittร " and spanned an even wider period, from early July to September 21st, featuring sports tournaments, outdoor cinema, the Holi Festival, foam parties, food festivals, and tribute concerts. Since 2026, the administration led by Mayor Gennaro D'Acunzi has rebranded the event as Nocera Estate, reducing the number of appointments while shifting the focus toward culture, folk traditions, and local identity.
The program is intentionally diverse and designed for a wide audience. Each edition brings together:
Nocera Superiore stands on the site of ancient Nuceria Alfaterna, a city of Oscan-Samnite origin later Romanized. Its remnants include the Hellenistic-Roman theater and the famous Early Christian Baptistery of Santa Maria Maggiore, known for its circular layout and baptismal font. It is no coincidence that the summer festival reserves space for ancient history every year: the event The Flavors of Ancient Nuceria, which combines tours of the excavations, historical re-enactments, and tastings, has become one of the most recognizable moments of the calendar and one of the few ways to visit the archaeological site in the evening.
The hub is the "Alfonso and Matteo Fresa" Urban Park, a large green space equipped to host children's shows and re-enactment evenings. Other stages include Piazza Materdomini, the heart of the homonymous district and home to the Sanctuary, the Municipal Villa, the square of the Monumental Complex of Santa Maria Maggiore, and the area around the church of San Michele Arcangelo. This dispersion is intentional: it serves to bring events outside the center and into the districts that would otherwise remain on the margins of cultural programming.
Nocera Estate is not a tourist event built for passing crowds; it is a local festival, with local associations curating individual events and a predominantly local audience. For this reason, it offers a very authentic image of the Agro Nocerino-Sarnese, the plain in Campania that connects Salerno to Vesuvius, often overlooked by classic itineraries between Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. Those in the area during the summer can combine an evening of the festival with a visit to the Baptistery and the Archaeological Park, both just minutes away from the performance venues.
The event is directed by the Municipality of Nocera Superiore, which publishes a public call every spring inviting local associations and operators to submit proposals for the program. Entities that have contributed to the events in recent years include Identitร Nuceria APS, the Associazione Il Santuario, the Gruppo Archeologico Nuceria, and various theater companies from Campania.
The summer program of the Municipality of Nocera Superiore changes its name to Nocera Estate. Presented in mid-July, the 2026 program features eleven events spread over just over two months and supported by the Salerno Chamber of Commerce. The administration led by Mayor Gennaro D'Acunzi has built an intentionally diverse calendar โ music, initiatives for children, exhibitions, folk traditions, faith, and historical re-enactment โ with the stated goal of enhancing the city's identity and its artistic, historical, and religious heritage.
Compared to 2025, the number of evenings is reduced, but the focus shifts decisively toward culture and community: the shows are held at the "Alfonso and Matteo Fresa" Urban Park, in Piazza Materdomini, in the Municipal Villa, in front of the Monumental Complex of Santa Maria Maggiore, and at the church of San Michele Arcangelo. Several evenings are curated by local associations: Identitร Nuceria APS, the Associazione Il Santuario, and the Gruppo Archeologico Nuceria.
By train โ Nocera Superiore has its own station on the Salerno-Naples line via Cava de' Tirreni, served by regional trains: it is the most convenient option, as the center and the Urban Park can be reached on foot or by a short car ride.
By car โ the reference motorway exit is Nocera-Pagani on the Autostrada del Mediterraneo (A2, formerly A3 Naples-Salerno). It takes about 20 minutes from Salerno and just over 40 from Naples. On performance evenings, it is advisable to arrive early: parking around the Urban Park and Piazza Materdomini is limited.
By plane โ the nearest airports are Salerno-Costa d'Amalfi in Pontecagnano and Naples-Capodichino.
The festival events take place in public outdoor spaces and press sources do not report entrance fees; in the 2025 edition, the closing concert on Corso Matteotti was explicitly free of charge. For confirmation on individual events, it is advisable to check the Municipality's official communications.
