The cultural summer at Villa Fiorentino, in the heart of Sorrento
"Metti una sera… in Villa" is the signature event with which the Fondazione Sorrento brightens the summer in the town of Sorrento, in the province of Naples, in the heart of Campania. For nearly three months, the garden and spaces of Villa Fiorentino, located on the central Corso Italia, transform into an open-air theater hosting concerts, recitals, plays, literary meetings, and charity evenings. The formula is simple and well-established: an event every few days, always starting at 8:30 PM, with almost all performances offering free admission.
The program is intentionally eclectic. Alongside classical music concerts and piano recitals, there is space for jazz, singer-songwriter music, the repertoire of Neapolitan song, and forays into international pop music, from 1970s disco to great swing orchestras. It is a schedule designed for a broad audience, blending local residents of the Sorrento Peninsula with Italian and international travelers vacationing on the coast.
The festival is not just about music: every edition hosts theatrical performances, dance shows curated by local groups, staged readings, and book presentations, often featuring the authors themselves. These moments give the event the character of a true summer cultural salon, where the audience can listen, ask questions, and linger in the villa's garden.
Villa Fiorentino is one of the most recognizable spots in Sorrento: a historic building surrounded by a garden of citrus and Mediterranean plants, it hosts exhibitions curated by the Fondazione Sorrento throughout the year and is just a short walk from the Circumvesuviana station and the historic center. Its location makes it easily accessible on foot from almost all city hotels, which explains the success of a festival born to be accessible to everyone.
Every summer, one or two evenings in the program are organized for charitable purposes, supporting local associations: in these cases, an entry contribution is required, the only exception—along with a few major international concerts—to the rule of free admission. It is a defining trait of the festival, which combines cultural entertainment with civic engagement.
Those attending an evening at "Metti una sera… in Villa" have a city full of life during the summer months at their disposal: walks along Corso Italia and Piazza Tasso, viewpoints over the Gulf of Naples, wood inlay workshops—a historic Sorrento craft—and local cuisine, from gnocchi alla sorrentina to limoncello produced with the peninsula's PGI lemons. The festival thus fits into a cultural offering that makes Sorrento one of the most popular destinations in Campania for the entire summer season.
From June 23 to September 12, 2026, the garden of Villa Fiorentino, on Corso Italia in Sorrento, hosts the new edition of "Metti una sera… in Villa." As Gaetano Milano, CEO of the Fondazione Sorrento, noted, the 2026 summer at the villa is dedicated to culture and healthy entertainment, with a rich program that is practically free for the public.
The schedule alternates concerts, recitals, theater, dance, literary meetings, and food and wine events, ranging from classical music to jazz, from Neapolitan song to contemporary theater. The artists involved come from all over Italy and, in some cases, from abroad, with a calendar designed for both residents and the numerous visitors who choose Sorrento during the summer season.
All events start at 8:30 PM. Admission is free, except for the international concert by Ray Gelato And The Giants and the two charity evenings, for which a contribution is requested. No reservations are required for free events: seats are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
All shows start at 8:30 PM at Villa Fiorentino. The program is subject to change: it is advisable to check the updated calendar on the Fondazione Sorrento website.
