The patronal feast of Bioglio: five days of tradition, great food, and community spirit in the heart of the Biella region.
Every year around mid-August, the small town of Bioglio, located in the province of Biella in the heart of Piedmont, transforms to celebrate its patron saint, Santa Maria Assunta. Bioglio in Festa is more than just a patronal feast; it is the time of year when the entire community gathers to share faith, fun, and good food. Five days of events draw residents, vacationers, and visitors from across the Valle Sessera and the Biella region.
As the organizers love to say, Bioglio in Festa is "the town's festival, a festival for everyone": a moment of joy, community, and togetherness. The event is promoted by the Parish of Santa Maria Assunta alongside an active organizing committee and numerous volunteers who have been passionately upholding this tradition for over twenty years.
The religious core remains August 15th, the Feast of the Assumption: a solemn Holy Mass and the traditional Assumption lunch (by reservation) mark the most heartfelt moment of the celebration. A rich calendar of events is built around this date, with festivities opening every evening from 7:00 PM.
Gastronomy is one of the pillars of Bioglio in Festa. Every evening, the food stand serves Biellese grilled meats and mixed fried fish, accompanied by a different daily special: from spit-roasted suckling pig to panissa, polenta with sausage and mushrooms, steamed mussels, or sea bream in foil. The evenings continue with live music, dancing, and DJ sets.
A must-attend event is the StraBioglio, a non-competitive 7 km fun run that has attracted enthusiasts of all ages for over two decades, preceded by the StraBioglio Baby for the little ones. The program is rounded out by card tournaments like Scala 40, vintage car and motorcycle rallies, entertainment for the youth, and the highly anticipated Assumption lottery draw.
The festival takes place in the event area of Bioglio, a town in the province of Biella nestled in the hills of the eastern Biellese. It is one of those patronal feasts that truly captures the identity of Piedmontese villages: unpretentious, authentic, and centered on a community gathering around its patron saint and its table.
