About Biofòlc

Biofòlc is the traditional folk festival of San Giorgio Monferrato, located in the heart of the Casale Monferrato area in the province of Alessandria. For two days, the Municipal Sports Center becomes the capital of folk music, featuring concerts, bal folk, traditional dance workshops, and convivial moments centered around the delicious cuisine of the local Pro Loco. Organized by the BIFÒLC - APS Association, the event brings together musicians, dancers, and enthusiasts from all over Italy and abroad, showcasing repertoires from the Alpine arc, France, and Val Resia.

Biofòlc, the folk festival in Monferrato

Biofòlc is the major festival dedicated to traditional folk music and dance that brings San Giorgio Monferrato to life every year. This small town in the province of Alessandria is nestled in the hills of the Casale Monferrato area, in Piedmont. Promoted by the BIFÒLC - APS Association with the patronage of the Municipality of San Giorgio Monferrato, the event transforms the Municipal Sports Center into a meeting point for musicians, dancers, and curious visitors arriving from various Italian regions and even abroad.

Music, bal folk, and traditional dances

The heart of Biofòlc is the bal folk: evenings of live concerts where the audience is invited to dance to the rhythm of diatonic accordions, hurdy-gurdies, concertinas, and traditional instruments. The program alternates between repertoires from the Alpine arc, French music and dances (Morvan, Gascony, Brittany, Poitou), and the extraordinary tradition of Val Resia in Friuli. Among the protagonists of recent editions are the Bifòlc Trio, the Lampetron with their Quattro Province repertoire, the Suonatori della Val Resia, the DaniAina duo, and the group Gallica.

Dance workshops and labs

Alongside the concerts, Biofòlc offers a day of traditional dance workshops led by specialized masters: you can learn the steps of dances from Morvan, Gascony, and Val Resia in sessions running from morning until late afternoon. It is an opportunity for both beginners and experts to immerse themselves in the culture of European folk dance.

Conviviality and flavors of Monferrato

The festival is also a moment of conviviality: the food is prepared by the Pro Loco, featuring typical local dishes accompanied by wines from the Cantina San Giorgio and craft beers. There is no shortage of "table singing," convivial lunches, and musical aperitifs in the evocative setting of the Castle of San Giorgio Monferrato.

A landmark for the region

Included in the "San Giorgio in Musica" project and supported by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Alessandria, Biofòlc has become a reference point for world music and folk lovers in Piedmont, capable of promoting folk traditions and bringing artists and audiences from all over Italy to Monferrato.

Biofòlc — edition 2026

Two days dedicated to bal folk, dance workshops, and conviviality, with cuisine by the Pro Loco and wines from the Cantina San Giorgio.
