Two days of traditional folk music and dance in San Giorgio Monferrato
Biofòlc is the major festival dedicated to traditional folk music and dance that brings San Giorgio Monferrato to life every year. This small town in the province of Alessandria is nestled in the hills of the Casale Monferrato area, in Piedmont. Promoted by the BIFÒLC - APS Association with the patronage of the Municipality of San Giorgio Monferrato, the event transforms the Municipal Sports Center into a meeting point for musicians, dancers, and curious visitors arriving from various Italian regions and even abroad.
The heart of Biofòlc is the bal folk: evenings of live concerts where the audience is invited to dance to the rhythm of diatonic accordions, hurdy-gurdies, concertinas, and traditional instruments. The program alternates between repertoires from the Alpine arc, French music and dances (Morvan, Gascony, Brittany, Poitou), and the extraordinary tradition of Val Resia in Friuli. Among the protagonists of recent editions are the Bifòlc Trio, the Lampetron with their Quattro Province repertoire, the Suonatori della Val Resia, the DaniAina duo, and the group Gallica.
Alongside the concerts, Biofòlc offers a day of traditional dance workshops led by specialized masters: you can learn the steps of dances from Morvan, Gascony, and Val Resia in sessions running from morning until late afternoon. It is an opportunity for both beginners and experts to immerse themselves in the culture of European folk dance.
The festival is also a moment of conviviality: the food is prepared by the Pro Loco, featuring typical local dishes accompanied by wines from the Cantina San Giorgio and craft beers. There is no shortage of "table singing," convivial lunches, and musical aperitifs in the evocative setting of the Castle of San Giorgio Monferrato.
Included in the "San Giorgio in Musica" project and supported by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Alessandria, Biofòlc has become a reference point for world music and folk lovers in Piedmont, capable of promoting folk traditions and bringing artists and audiences from all over Italy to Monferrato.
The new edition of Biofòlc brought San Giorgio Monferrato to life on Friday, May 29, and Saturday, May 30, 2026. On Friday evening, after the opening of the food stands, Lampetron took the stage with their Quattro Province repertoire, followed by the Bifòlc Trio with Alpine and French music and dances. Saturday was dedicated to dance workshops featuring Morvan, Gascony, and Val Resia styles, followed by a musical aperitif at the Castle and evening concerts with the Suonatori della Val Resia, the DaniAina duo, and Gallica. A touching moment was the convivial Saturday lunch with "table singing." The event confirmed the growth of a festival that has become a landmark for folk music in Piedmont.
San Giorgio Monferrato is located in the province of Alessandria, in the Casale Monferrato area, just a few kilometers from Casale Monferrato. By car, it can be reached via the A26 motorway (Casale Sud exit) or the provincial roads of Monferrato. The nearest train station is in Casale Monferrato. The event takes place at the Municipal Sports Center.
Participation in workshops and concerts is limited and requires an entry contribution, with discounted rates available for pre-sale. Registration is done online on the official website www.bifolc.it. For adult residents, there is a reduced contribution for the entire weekend, while entry is free for those under 18.
On-site catering is provided by the Pro Loco, offering typical dishes, wines from the Cantina San Giorgio, and craft beers.
