International dance and music among the Monferrato hills
The Orsolina28 Art Foundation has transformed a farmhouse on the hills of Moncalvo, in the heart of the Asti Monferrato region, into one of Europe's most unique centers for the performing arts. Established as a non-profit organization to foster the future of dance and live performance, the foundation attracts world-renowned choreographers, companies, and musicians to the province of Asti, Piedmont, in a constant dialogue between artistic creation and the enhancement of the local landscape.
The heart of the season lies in its two exceptional performance spaces. The Open Air Stage is an outdoor venue with approximately 880 seats nestled among the vineyards, where shows unfold at sunset with the hills as a natural backdrop. The Eye, an innovative 220-seat structure surrounded by cherry trees, was conceived in collaboration with the celebrated Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin. Some events are also held in public spaces throughout Moncalvo, in collaboration with the local municipality and the Moncalvo in Danza festival.
The season is structured into several strands that intertwine performance and research:
Orsolina28's stage hosts some of the most important names in the contemporary scene: from choreographer Hofesh Shechter to Canadian artist Emma Portner, from the Humanhood collective to the Gauthier Dance company, and emerging authors like Tú Hoàng. The artistic direction is entrusted to founder Simony Monteiro, who curates a program capable of uniting great masters with new talents.
Attending a performance at Orsolina28 means experiencing dance in an unrepeatable natural setting, amidst rows of vines and the scent of the Monferrato countryside. Free admission with mandatory reservation, along with the invitation to leave a voluntary contribution, makes the season accessible to a wide audience, from dance enthusiasts to those discovering this corner of Piedmont for the first time.
The 2026 Season celebrates the tenth anniversary of the foundation and runs from April 25 to October 31, 2026, with over thirty alternating dance and music events. The inauguration on April 25 features the Outside the Box concert by cellist Naomi Berrill, the first title of the Cherry Notes Series, which continues with the Quartetto Nous (May 9) and a program dedicated to Mozart and Italian melodrama (May 16).
The choreographic program brings top-tier artists to Moncalvo: Hofesh Shechter with Unluck (June 6), Emma Portner (June 20), Tú Hoàng (July 4), and the Humanhood collective with Light (October 31), alongside the Gauthier Dance company. In addition to the performances, the Focus on Creation and Call for Creation residencies, as well as the Intensive and Moncalvo in Danza programs, will animate the entire season.
Performances are held in the foundation's two theaters, the Open Air Stage among the vineyards and The Eye among the cherry trees, as well as in various public spaces in Moncalvo. Free admission with mandatory reservation and voluntary contribution.
