A seaside festival in the heart of Tuscany

It might seem curious to talk about seafood in the Pisan hinterland, yet the Bientina Fish Festival is one of the most anticipated events of the Ferragosto holiday in the Province of Pisa. Every year, in the Quattro Strade district, Parco Le Sughere transforms into a large seafood festival where long tables, music, and good food continue for four consecutive evenings.

The event is organized by the Misericordia of Bientina, a historic local volunteer brotherhood, supported over the years by the Gruppo Podistico Bientinese and the Circolo Il Risorgimento. This is the very spirit that makes the event special: volunteers are behind the stoves and serving at the tables, and all proceeds are reinvested in medical equipment and rescue vehicles for the community.

The cuisine: the sea on your plate

The menu is the true star of the evening. The tradition of the Bientina Fish Festival focuses on simple and generous seafood dishes: seafood appetizers, first courses like penne with clams, and main courses featuring mixed fried seafood, squid and shrimp, seafood skewers, and grilled tuna. For those who don't like fish, there are plenty of alternatives, ensuring no one goes hungry.

Music and dancing under the stars

After dinner, the party doesn't stop: from 9:00 PM, the Parco Le Sughere space comes alive with live music and ballroom dancing, a very popular tradition in this part of Tuscany. Every evening, a different orchestra takes the stage to accompany guests of all ages until late in the evening in a festive, family-friendly atmosphere.

The Fish Festival is not just a food event: it is a commitment to solidarity. In recent years, the proceeds from the evenings have been allocated to the purchase of state-of-the-art medical equipment for the benefit of the citizens of Bientina and the surrounding area. Participating in the festival therefore also means providing concrete help to the Misericordia and its work in service of the community.
