Wine, folklore, and a parade of allegorical floats in the medieval village of Panicale
The Grape Festival is the event that celebrates the grape harvest in Panicale in September. This medieval jewel in the province of Perugia, listed among The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, overlooks Lake Trasimeno. Organized by the Pro Loco of Panicale, it is one of the oldest and most deeply rooted food and wine festivals in Umbria: in 2025, it marked its fiftieth edition.
The heart of the festival is the food and wine trail through the ancient cellars of the historic center, where you can taste the DOC wines of the Colli del Trasimeno paired with local gastronomic excellences. For four days, Panicale becomes a true showcase of local wine, with Open Cellars events animating the alleys and squares of the village.
Among the most anticipated events is the parade of allegorical floats, which colors the village streets, accompanied by dancing evenings, live music, and folklore traditions. There is also an antique and collectibles market, which completes the event's offerings.
The Panicale Grape Festival combines the promotion of local wine heritage with the popular and community dimension of a village festival. Strolling through the medieval village's cellars, glass in hand, with the backdrop of the Trasimeno hills, is an experience that tells the identity of this corner of Umbria better than any description.
The 2026 edition of the Grape Festival in Panicale is expected in September, following the tradition of holding the event on the second weekend of the month. After the celebrations for the fiftieth edition in 2025, the festival confirms its four-day format dedicated to wine culture and popular tradition.
The usual program includes the food and wine trail through the ancient cellars of the historic center with tastings of DOC wines from the Colli del Trasimeno and local products (Open Cellars), the parade of allegorical floats, dancing evenings, live music, folklore traditions, and the antique and collectibles market. Exact dates and the detailed program will be announced by the Pro Loco of Panicale closer to the event.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be published by the Pro Loco of Panicale in the weeks preceding the event. The four-day festival typically offers:
