A gourmet walking tour in the Mòcheni Valley
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Bersntol Ring is the flagship event of the Mòcheni Valley, a side valley of the Valsugana that the Austrian writer Robert Musil famously dubbed the "Enchanted Valley." Established in 1998 and now boasting over thirty editions, this gourmet walking tour blends gentle exercise with culinary delights, allowing visitors to discover the treasures of this Frassilongo municipality in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige) in a single day.
The route spans approximately 14 kilometers with a 600-meter elevation gain. It forms a loop starting and ending at Kamaovrunt (Kamauz), near the small church in the Frassilongo (Garait) hamlet. The trail winds through forests, mountain huts, meadows, and ancient paths, making it accessible to everyone, including families with trekking strollers. Participants can choose to travel on foot or by mountain bike or e-bike, setting their own pace throughout the day.
The heart of the event lies in the eight food stations scattered along the loop, where you can sample authentic Mòcheni and Trentino cuisine: canederli (bread dumplings), tosella cheese, grilled polenta, lucanica sausage skewers, mountain-made cheeses, traditional desserts, and other local specialties. Each stop is an opportunity to pause, refresh, and learn about the valley's authentic flavors, often accompanied by live music and demonstrations of ancient crafts.
The Bersntol Ring is more than just a food walk; it is a celebration of the identity of the Mòcheni linguistic minority, a community of Germanic origin that has settled in this Trentino valley for centuries. Along the path, you will find folk music, ancient crafts like shingle-making, and traditions linked to the Bersntolerisch language. The event also highlights the valley's natural heritage and biodiversity, offering an authentic glimpse into an alpine territory that remains little-known yet surprisingly rich.
Organized by APT Valsugana, the Bersntol Ring traditionally takes place in August, drawing hundreds of participants from across Trentino and beyond. It has become one of the most anticipated summer events in the Mòcheni Valley, successfully combining slow tourism, quality gastronomy, and the rediscovery of the cultural roots of this part of the province of Trento.
The Bersntol Ring 2026 will return, according to tradition, in August in the Mòcheni Valley, with start and finish in Kamaovrunt, a hamlet of Frassilongo (province of Trento). At the moment, the official dates and the program for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced: information will be updated as soon as APT Valsugana publishes the details. The event will again offer the 14 km loop with a 600-meter elevation gain, accessible on foot or by mountain bike, and the eight gastronomic stops dedicated to traditional Mòcheni and Trentino dishes.
The Mòcheni Valley can be reached by car from Pergine Valsugana, heading up the valley to Frassilongo and the hamlet of Kamaovrunt (Kamauz), the starting and finishing point. By train, the reference station is Pergine Valsugana, on the Valsugana line (Trento–Bassano del Grappa), from where you can continue by car or local transport.
Participation is limited and requires advance registration. In the 2025 edition, fees ranged from approximately €10 (children) to €25 (adults), with discounts for youths, seniors over 65, and families, plus a surcharge for late registration. Registration is handled online and at designated APT Valsugana points.
We recommend wearing trekking clothing and footwear, and bringing a rain jacket and a water bottle. Departure is flexible throughout the morning; it is advisable to keep an eye on the times to ensure you complete all gastronomic stops by the afternoon.
