The summer festival of Italian rosé wines at Villa Appia Antica
Bererosa is the summer appointment that the city of Rome, in the Lazio region, dedicates entirely to Italian rosé wines. The event takes place over a single day within the green spaces of Villa Appia Antica, on Via Pompeo Licinio, just a stone's throw from the Appia Antica Regional Park: a rare setting of ancient trees, open lawns, and Roman archaeological remains, which gives the tasting a truly unique atmosphere as the sun begins to set.
The event is conceived and organized by the food and wine magazine Cucina & Vini, which has long championed the idea that rosé is not a middle ground between white and red, but a category with its own productive and stylistic identity. Bererosa was created specifically to showcase this diversity: from Chiaretto del Garda to Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo, from Apulian rosés to those from Lazio, Sicily, Sardinia, Liguria, and South Tyrol, with a growing presence of Metodo Classico and Charmat rosé sparkling wines.
The structure of the evening is simple and highly appreciated by the public: no shifts, no reservations for individual tastings. Upon entry, guests receive a wine glass and a glass holder pouch, allowing them to move freely between the tasting tables scattered throughout the park, stopping to chat with the producers and wineries present. It is a format that works well for those who want to build their own personal journey, perhaps starting from the North and heading South, or focusing on a single grape variety or denomination.
Alongside the wine tables, Bererosa sets up a food area each year designed to accompany the tasting without overshadowing it. Recent editions have featured participants such as the Sei Colli charcuterie, the Sfornaio bakery with its Roman white pizza, fried Ascoli-style olives, artisanal breadsticks, and a selection of extra virgin olive oils offered in guided tastings.
One of the most interesting trends noted by the organizers is the constant growth of the under-30 audience. Rosé, thanks to its immediate character and summer appeal, has established itself as an entry-level wine for a new generation of enthusiasts, who find at Bererosa an informal yet technically serious environment, where they can ask producers directly how a short maceration is achieved or why a Cerasuolo can age longer than one might think.
Bererosa is more than just a tasting: it is a different way to experience one of the most evocative areas of the capital. Villa Appia Antica is located in the south-east quadrant of the city, in an area where archaeological Rome and the Roman countryside still coexist. Arriving at sunset, walking through the park with a glass in hand, and staying late into the evening among the illuminated ruins is an unforgettable experience, explaining why the event has become a fixed date on the Roman food and wine calendar.
On Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM, Villa Appia Antica hosted the fifteenth edition of Bererosa, the event conceived by the magazine Cucina & Vini and dedicated to Italian rosé wines.
The tasting route ideally crossed the peninsula with over 120 rosé labels, including still and sparkling wines, from eleven regions: Abruzzo, South Tyrol, Campania, Lazio, Liguria, Lombardy, Piedmont, Puglia, Sardinia, Tuscany, Trentino, and Veneto. More than fifty wineries manned the tasting tables, allowing the public to speak directly with the producers.
The walk-around tasting format was confirmed, allowing guests to move freely through the park between the tables. The food area featured the Sei Colli charcuterie, the Sfornaio bakery with white pizza, the Bottega dell'Oliva Ascolana for fried snacks, Vitavigor breadsticks, and extra virgin olive oils from Olives Road. A new feature this year was the entertainment area by Cosmic Crisp®, with hot air balloon rides and a cloud-shaped swing.
