The zero-kilometre farmers' market in the Appia Antica Park
The Campagna Amica Farmers' Market at Fonte Acqua Egeria is one of the most evocative agricultural markets in Rome. It is held at Via dell'Almone 111, in the heart of the Appia Antica Park (Municipio VIII), a protected area of enormous historical, archaeological, and natural interest, crossed by the small Almone river and overlooking the famous Fonte Acqua Egeria, the spring linked to the legendary nymph Egeria. Here, every weekend, farmers from the Roman countryside and the Lazio region bring their products directly to the stalls, without intermediaries.
Established in May 2011 thanks to an agreement between the Società Acqua Santa di Roma, Coldiretti, and Agrimercato Roma, the market adheres to the Fondazione Campagna Amica network and shares its principles: zero-kilometre, seasonality, and the protection of local products. Each stall is managed directly by the producer, ensuring a direct relationship between those who grow the food and those who buy it, in the name of fair, healthy, and guaranteed produce.
There are also plenty of opportunities for tastings and to chat with the farmers, who share stories about their work in the fields and the secrets of their crops.
Shopping at Fonte Acqua Egeria means immersing yourself in one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Capital: the Caffarella valley, the pine trees of the Appia Antica, and the archaeological remains that dot the park. The market is much more than just a retail point: it is a meeting place for families, food lovers, and tourists who want to discover the authentic flavours of the region just a stone's throw from the centre of Rome.
The market takes place every Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 to 13:30 all year round, with the usual break during the month of August. It is located in the Municipality of Rome, in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in the Lazio region.
Also in 2026, the Fonte Acqua Egeria market opens its stalls every Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 to 13:30, in the heart of the Appia Antica Park in Rome. Farmers from the Campagna Amica network offer fresh, seasonal, zero-kilometre products: vegetables, fruit, PDO and organic cheeses, wine, extra virgin olive oil, bread, cured meats, preserves, and honey from Lazio.
As per tradition, the market observes its summer closure in August and resumes its activities regularly at the end of the summer. Tastings and direct contact with the producers remain the heart of every shopping weekend.
The market is located at Via dell'Almone 111, in the Appia Antica Park (Municipio VIII of Rome). By car, it can be reached from Via Appia Nuova and Via Ardeatina; parking areas are available nearby. By public transport, metro and bus stops serve the Appia Antica and Caffarella area.
Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 to 13:30. Closed in August.
Access to the market is free.
